A new member of the family needs a name

We picked up a dog form the shelter today.  Our last dog died in 1999, so it’s been a while for us.  He is a Westie.. a West Highland White Terrier.  He’s 5 years old and he needs a name.  Got any ideas?

Doggie2

He was originally a puppy mill dog.  He was used as a stud.  Then he went to a family with three kids and both he and the family were overwhelmed.  He ran away from home and was taken to the shelter where he’s been for about three weeks.

A few of the names that have been suggested:  Hercules, Gus, Jack, Napoleon, Max, Stud Muffin among others.  I liked Bits or Bitsy but I’m being overruled.  What do you guys think?

  1. We had a similar looking dog several years ago-we called him ‘Scriffie’, although I also like taking the word ‘Dog’ or ‘Cat’ and putting the emphasis on different syllables as you spell out the word.
Dog would be ‘Dee-Oh-Gee’ and Cat would be ‘Cee-Ay-Tee’.

  2. He hasn’t barked at all. He’s very shy. He really hasn’t even explored the house much. He just lays my my chair here at my desk.

  3. His original name was Jack. The shelter didn’t like Jack so they called him Napoleon. He doesn’t seem to answer to either of those.

  4. “Mordiscos” (Bits in Spanish). If you prefeer a short name: “Mordi” 😀
    It’s a different name.

  5. Just call him ‘Patience’ and work with it from there. Good dogs come from their owners, not breeding.

Have a great weekend and a good trip to Florida,

  6. I liked what Dave suggested, name him after food. i thought Marshmallow was cute….but then S’More hit me…..cuz he needs S’more lovin’. Congrats on your new dog…glad he’s out of his awful environment. I wish you all many happy years together!!!

  7. I, of course and all for Bits, but as your being overruled I think I like Gus or Angus. He is a scotty after all. Oooo! Scott!
He is a very nice looking dog and you are a lovely family for giving him a home. xo

  8. He looks like a “Fritz”, whatever that is.

    Rhymes with bits, I guess.

If he’s not house trained, it’s “Fritz and Feces”.
