  1. Paul, I’ll have to look for that evil face.

Bella, my little didn’t care, haha. She was too busy watching Caillou (a PBS cartoon).

Keith, that would be a good remix to the video to have dorothy and her dog circling around, haha.

  2. Sander, it would have been a much better video if your little girl was not in the back seat. It sounded like she was terrified, did I hear it right? Did I hear her say “this is stupid”?

  3. Sander…Glad your little girl was in the back seat and not driving. That was sensible

I think you also had a great deal of common sense in seeking shelter when you were able. Great video.

  4. LOL @ Deej! Great Video Sander! I could hear Caillou, my kids love it too! I loved storms as a kid and that was a corker!

  5. Wow, it is cool that you people have never witnessed a tornado. I have, not a bunch of fun. If he wants to chase them, leave the kids at home. DJ, did tou see the cars buzzing past him in the opposite direction?

  9. I did manage to do something rather cool though. I set up my computers to delete the people that get on my nerves on this site. It will keep me from having a heart attack. I dig it.

  10. What the heck just happened?

My kid couldn’t care less about what was going on. That’s why you hear me pleading with her to look around cause it’s a once-in-a-lifetime event. She was too busy watching Caillou. She’s 4 and doesn’t scare easily. I didn’t raise a wuss.

And no, I didn’t go tornado chasing. I was on my way out to Colorado Springs for vacation with some extended family. Anyone who automatically assumes that I packed up my daughter to go storm chasing must be an idiot themselves. You know, the whole it takes one to know one type of deal. If you that’s what entered your mind, it speaks volumes of what your mind is made up of.

For the record, I was already listening to a local radio station that was doing nothing but weather reports. I have satellite radio otherwise and wouldn’t be on a local country station if I wasn’t concerned about the situation. They had just previously said that the National Weather Service had canceled all tornado warnings and watches for the area. Then out of nowhere, I saw what I saw. That’s why I was able to turn up the radio and immediately hear a weather report. It wasn’t sheer luck.

And also for the record, where I stopped was a strategic stop. I stopped right at the bottom of an on-ramp to assess the situation. This gave me at least 4 directions to run including going back up the on-ramp and going in a perpendicular direction. Seeing as I was already under the storm and it was moving East, my best option was to continue going West.

  12. Sander, I was never suggesting that you were putting your little one in harms way. Just that I’d be scared sh*tl3ss myself. Just want you to know that.

  13. For future reference to anyone watching this video, it is not safe to drive into tornado clouds or any ‘wall’ cloud, especially when you are out on open road. AS I watch the video, I see several safe spots for Sander to pull off…anywhere under an overpass. Many lives were saved several years back when a severe strong tornado crossed I35 in the middle of the day. The underpass was packed with motorists, evacuating their cars to climb up under the roadway of the overpass. Semis were toppled in the same storm and lives lost, but those seeking shelter under the overpass were safe. Considering driving back up the entrance ramp was possibly your worst alternative. You’d been better off just stopping under the overpass. Never consider seeking higher ground. If there are no overpasses nearby, park the vehicle & find a ditch to lay face down in until the storm passes. The rest area is a good choice only if it doesn’t involve driving into the storm. Count your blessings you made it through this storm.

  14. Native Kansan, are you freakin kidding me?

Just because you’re a Kansas Native does NOT make you knowledgeable when it comes to tornadoes. That’s like assuming all Hawaiians know how to surf.

For the record, seeking shelter under an overpass is about the STUPIDEST THING YOU CAN DO!!!!

Don’t believe me, get it straight from the horse’s mouth, aka the NOAA.

So before you start criticizing me on what’s smart and not smart, at least know what you’re talking about.

    Thank you very much.
