  1. Those trees don’t look to bothered. Looks more like a derailment that occurred during some rain. Trains are weak.

  2. That is an odd video. Ana has a very valid point but the trees wouldn’t absorb as much of the force as the train. Trains don’t have a lot of lateral support other than their weight, however, and once they’re moving that negates some of that. Still, I do not know enough about trains, tornadoes, or what the hell was going on at that point in time to do anything but guess, so I’ll just assume it was Bella’s fault.

  3. I work for a railroad. Everything is meant to sway and give somewhat. This scares the hell out of me. Back in ’06 when we had that big storm (I live in the STL area…) hit, I was at work. My crew made a decision to stay on the engine if we saw a funnel cloud. I still don’t know if that is a good idea…The engine stayed on the rail, but the cars were moved pretty easy.

  4. The center of gravity is high for trains as they cannot go to a curve or corner too fast or too small in angle. Lateral force near the top will easily tip them. Trains are my second favorite mode of transportation, the first being automobiles ^_^

  5. Wow…and, to see the rest of the cars rolling up to the back of the engine after the other cars fell off the track…! That was incredible!

  6. at the 1 min mark the trees are moving a lot and you hear what sounds like a thump on the roof of the engine followed by leaves blowing by. wasn’t there just trying to over Analise it. still cool ether way. love trains

  7. Australia’s Ghan is a famous train running to Alice Springs, and has quite a reputation for slow service due to very bad track – 20mph max for 800 miles!…

Worried and very pregnant Bitscared catches the attention of the conductor on the Ghan one fine day:

“Mr conductor, I am very worried that if we do not get to Alice Springs on time, I just might be into labor right here on the train.”

“Madam, you should have thought about that when you boarded, being that you are in this condition.”

“But sir,” exclaimed Bitsy, “When I boarded this train, I wasn’t in this condition!”

  8. My Dad and my son’s Dad were trainmen/railroaders. I can say that they both would have sh!t bricks when they saw the tanker car (diesel, propane, gas, milk or otherwise) with flames shooting out of the bottom, coming at the engine. Crap!!!

  9. KLAW- I work for the A&S. We are the red-headed step child of the UP.

That is an amazing vid. CrossCheckRaise does some nice digging when he has time. This is just a reminder of how fragile we all are…
