  1. Dunno, Jonco. You may be stirring the pudding with this one. Hopefully, not too many folks know who Dr. Tiller is.

  2. So, how can someone call themselves a “Christian” and take another persons life? And for a church to use his death for it’s gain is to be abhorred.

  3. Well I’ll stir it up a bit more. As long as it’s legal, Pro Choice.
Greg, the guy that shot George Tiller called himself a “Christian” and he is a “Murderer”.

  4. Spirit One Christian Center (in name only) must be filled with a bunch of kooks if they support or allow something like this. Statements and actions such as this are unconscionable.

  5. “”The criminals in this town used to believe in things. Honor. Respect. Look at you! What do you believe in? What do you believe in!”

“I believe whatever doesn’t kill you simply makes you… stranger.”

  6. I personally am against abortions. However, I’m not so naive as to think that I haven’t directly benefited from abortions. If there were no abortions, there would be a shitload of unwanted kids around growing up in poverty and crime, which then only will result in them being at best a drain on the welfare system and at worst a murderer on death row wasting away many more millions of taxpayer dollars.

As to how a Christian can be murderer? Pretty simple. Just like how a soldier can call himself a Christian and kill. If you believe you are ridding evil in the world, it’s pretty easy to believe you’re a Christian and murder.

Imagine this related scenario. Abortions are viewed as a form of mass murder–serial murderer if you will. If there was a serial murderer out on the streets in your town and you know who he was and you know he was going to kill again, is it not your moral duty to stop the murder of the innocent by whatever means possible?

Or if you spotted a terrorist trying to blow up a plane, and you murdered him to save the lives of many, would you fear going to hell for killing a terrorist?

While I understand that abortion is legal whereas terrorism is not, we’re not talking legal here. We’re talking morals.

And if you truly were a liberal, you would understand how it is that a Christian could justify murder. Cause as liberals, we seek to understand. The world isn’t just black or white.

  7. Jesus would not kill anyone. He was a pacifist and a socialist. Doubts? Read the bible.

(Although I am pro-choice I do not believe in late term abortion)

  8. Reader – Obama favored of late-term and full-term abortions several times in as a state senator.

  9. Scott Roeder, in telling the AP from his prison cell that there are more of these actions planned, is a domestic terrorist. Here’s your Jack Bauer moment kids, we have a terrorist in prison who knows something, when does the torture start?

  10. DJ,
Yeah right we’re going to torture the dude. By the way, thanks for the kind words on the Sunday open mic.

  11. Paul – No, we prob won’t, but anytime somebody claims to have real info that someone is going to die, it would seem to kinda make sense to take necessary steps to prevent the deaths. And dribbling water up someone’s nose for 5-10 seconds with a doctor monitoring might be real damn scary, but you want real torture, look up the Rape of Nanking, or the docs in the Nazi camps, or how about Muslim women being stoned to death.

And you’re welcome. I don’t remember what I said (I’m over 50, so obviously the mind’s long gone) but even tho you and I are waaay far apart on certain issues, you’ve always been sincere, articulate, and civil. Many (on both sides) aren’t. You don’t seem like the kind that would wish physical harm to people you disagree with. Maybe just some itching or bad hair. (And thanks a lot. I had to get a haircut this afternoon.)

And the joke you posted a few weeks ago was the funniest I’ve read in a long time.

  12. Greg–in the Bible, God does allow us humans to make and enforce laws, including capital punishment. Remember that many laws that God gave the Jews had killing as the punishment if one committed said crime.

However, for the record, the guy who killed Dr. Tiller is a murderer. While I do not believe in abortions, it is (unfortunately) legal in most states, so he was free to work his profession. And while the killer claims to be Christian, he obviously is not a true Christian as he has not read the Bible–or does not understand it. As a Christian, he should have prayed for Dr. Tiller and work to change the laws in his state.

And even though he was killed while working at a church, I have a hard time believing that Dr. Tiller was a true Christian either. But that is not for me to judge, so I will not worry about it now–and praying for him is too late; praying for his family and friends is not too late to do. And we should pray for them.

  13. I had to google him. Now I know. I am not any better for the knowledge just a bit sadder. Having a friend that lost her baby at 21 weeks and seeing pictures of hm, he was fully formed. A complete and amazing human.
I just don’t understand late stage abortion as a choice. I just don’t understand at all.

  14. As the father of an adopted child, I am pro life, but I also understand that another persons choice is up to them. On a related note, it is said that a woman makes a choice when she spreads her legs…crude, but accurate.

  15. Not always Richard. I know a girl who was raped at gunpoint. She then had to make the toughest decision of her life while she was in the most emotionally damaged state of her life. She has gotten passed the rape but she still thinks about that unborn child. That was 16 years ago…

  16. I’ll take the same position as the pro-abortion folks do. personally I’m opposed to killing later term abortionists, but I don’t want to impose my morality on others.

  17. So, why are the woman that decided to have a late term abortion better than Tiller? Why not shoot those women in their church too? The abortion wouldn’t have happened without them deciding to do it. Changes things a bit, eh? Damn hypocrites. The guy who shot Tiller is certainly NOT a Christian, and anyone who thinks so is delusional. If God is okay with shooting Tiller, then count me out from being a Christian any longer.

  18. Perhaps, he was OUTRAGED. I am glad he killed that effing “doctor”. I guess I feel this way because I have children.

  19. hey I think he committed murder along with the women who went to him,the damn liberals like to suger coat it with “its a womans right” no its still murder, and yet they protest outside a prison when a person gets the lethal injection ,proof that liberals are insane

  20. Richard – As an adoptee, I thank you for what you did for your child.
I’m glad the woman who gave birth to me didn’t decide to have me killed, and I’m glad someone cared enough to step up and give me a chance at a normal life.
You’ve given a lifetime to that kid.

  21. I would like to point out that my twin boys were born at that age. Based on what Tiller believed it would have been perfectly fine to stab the kids a few minutes after they were born.

  22. It should also be mentioned that Kansas Law (where Tiller practiced) only allows for late term abortions if two independent doctors agree that it is necessary to save a women’s life or prevent “substantial and irreversible” harm to “a major bodily function,” a phrase that has been interpreted to include mental health.

It’s not like a woman can casually stroll in at 8 months and say, “You know what? I changed my mind about this baby thing.”

  23. Murder is murder. 2 wrongs do not make a right, ever. I am male, and I think women should choose what happens to their bodies. I do not think that murdering someone you do not agree with is kosher. Xtians need more Jesus, less Limbaugh/Cheney.

My own opinion, it is still legal to have one…….

  24. He got aborted. At least he had the chance to live 60+ years, unlike all those babies he murdered.

I don’t condone his murder, but I cannot feel any sympathy for him on the other hand. Fancy going to church on Sunday and killing a baby on Monday.

  25. It’s not murder if the organism could not survive outside the womb without medical help. A fetus is not a child.

And those of you who are religious, please cite chapter and verse in the bible where abortion is condemned. God himself is the biggest abortionist ever–every miscarriage is his work, is it not? He’s also a petty, jealous tyrant, but that’s grist for another mill.

Anti-choice people love to throw out “murder” because it makes them feel smug and self-satisfied. But they have no right to criticize what a woman does with her own body…and BOTH she and the man who had sex with her are at fault for making an unwanted baby. Anti-abortionists are mysogynists and sex-haters who despise the thought of women being in control of their own bodies, and secretly or not, embrace the murder of Tiller.

And yet they actually, to your face, call themselves “Christian.” Classic.

  26. Interesting diatribe, Troglodyke. If an organism can’t survive outside the womb without medical help, does that imply someone on life support can’t be murdered? That someone with significant trauma or cancer can’t be murdered?
But, no, I never feel ‘smug’ or ‘self-satisfied’ in any death. I think death can be a tragedy, a blessing, or the natural course of life, and it’s up to each individual to determine where it falls within their personal belief structure. As far as chapter and verse, it hinges on “Thou shalt not kill”. However, that’s irrelevant if one believes the fetus does not live.
Anti-abortionists are misogyists and sex-haters? Smug and self-satisfied? I feel like I’ve stepped into the middle of non sequitur theater here. Based on the vitriol I see here, that would imply that you rejoice in every abortion but you pride yourself on supporting choice?
But, sorry to say, no, I don’t ‘call’ myself a Christian. I ‘am’ a Christian and it’s not about talk, it’s about actions. It’s easy to talk the talk, it’s quite another thing to walk the walk.
However, I do hope you drolled and salivated all over your keyboard and display while you were typing this out. (I said I was a Christian…I didn’t say I was a ‘good’ Christian).

  27. Troglodyke, it IS murder because like it or not, the fetus is a human being. You can name this “thing” any way you like, you can classify it and use play on with words, and what you tell yourself are reasonable clauses, to make yourself feel better about killing “it”, but “it’s” still a human being. Premature babies can survive without medical intervention, but they are usually given this to give them a bigger chance to survive.

We as a society DO have the right to criticize a woman having a late term abortion because:
-Why did she wait so long to get rid of the child?
-A real mother doesn’t allow her child to be killed, she gives her child all the chance it can get to live, even if it means putting her own life at risk. That is the decent, ethical and moral thing to do. How lucky we all were that our mothers didn’t decide to flush us down the toilet.

It’s not the child’s fault that he/she was created and that he/she can feel pain. Saying “it’s my body” is an excuse. It’s not YOUR body, it’s your CHILD’S body. A woman should take RESPONSIBILITIES FOR HER ACTIONS and live with those consequences. But then, it’s just so much easier to “take care of the problem” by killing it off, isn’t it?
