John Deere tractor music…

… Like you’ve never heard before.

This incredible machine was built as a collaborative effort between the Robert M.Trammell Music Conservatory and the Sharon Wick School of Engineering at the University of Iowa. Amazingly, 97% of the machines components came from John Deere Industries and Irrigation Equipment of Bancroft, Iowa, yes farm equipment! It took the team a combined 13,029 hours of set-up, alignment, calibration, and tuning before filming this video but as you can see it was WELL worth the effort. It is now on display in the Matthew Gerhard Alumni Hall at the University and is already lated to be
donated to the Smithsonian.

P.S. Notice that at no time does a ball fall on the floor!

Thanks Gene

Update: I stand corrected, (over and over) it’s all bullshit!  That damn Gene guy is getting me in trouble.

Thanks Gene  🙂

  1. Actually, according to snopes: “The device depicted in this video does not exist, at the University of Iowa or anywhere else. It’s an example of a computer-animated music video, this one entitled “Pipe Dream” and taken from one of several similar segments on a DVD produced by Animusic. An excerpt of the original can be viewed on the Animusic web site. “

    • Alex, That’s what you’re here for, to correct things you find that are false. If I went to Snopes and other sites and tried to verify all my posts, there would just be 2 or 3 a day. I put them out there because I find them funny or interesting in one way or another. I don’t guarantee their accuracy one bit. I know that people like you will point that out to us in multitude, just as you have now. On Bits & Pieces, it’s buyer beware!

  2. I loved this video so much I bought the DVD! Animusic have put out at least 2 DVDs with fantastic instruments. As a music teacher I’ve even used the DVDs in my teaching to get kids thinking about how sound is produced etc. The creators are just brilliant in their accuracy!

  4. That was a cool video.

And like anything, when I browse here, I get what I paid for… Actually, I get more than what I paid for usually.

Once I get a job, I should buy Jonco a beer or two.

  5. OMG. What ever happened to people’s sense of humor?

Jonco! I don’t think the guy peeing on the fire is really putting the fire out either!!! How could you post that!?? Stop with the stories!!
And how DARE you post that vid of the gorilla playing drums?? I checked out Snopes and it seems it’s not a real gorilla. WTF? Why do you perpetuate urban myths?
And those letters from Satan…I’m having suspicions that those are even real….I’m calling Snopes and the FBI today to investigate.
And the talking buck strapped to the hood of the car??? Geez Jonco! I don’t think it’s real, and I can’t believe you do too. Stop with the stories already!!

Thank you. If you’re real. But you might be a perpetuated urban myth too.

  7. Not only that, but you’re a driver over 50 and you force your bizarre political views on us day after day after day. And Snopes says you’re a flaming racist.
There is absolutely no place else for us to go on the web. None. Nada.
    I want my money back.

    • Gene, I know. I’m just teasing with you. I agree, I just post them as I get them, unless I know it’s wrong ahead of time. Then I’ll correct it. Keep ’em coming! We appreciate them. The readers will let us know which ones are bogus.

  12. Still, it would be cool to build this in real life. Incredibly hard though, to get all those bounces right. As much as a slight draft could throw things off.

Seriously, google Bella Coola, British Columbia, Canada. If you like scenery
and fishing, then you have found heaven. 17% grade, I can’t remember how many
switchbacks (oops, switchbachs)and the most amazing waterfall at the bottom of
the hill as you enter the garden of eden. Simply amazing.
And ALN, I forgot to comment from open mike about the kootenays that you have gone
through. I’ve been down there twice and it’s peaceful, that’s for sure. Are you
a truck driver or commercial driver?
