  1. Put your cursort over the camel and it says Rosie O’Donnell.

I nearly wet my pants. Now I have to search all of them.

  2. Mike Tyson? Clinton? The artist was obviously oriental, there seems to be a heavy oriental influence here.

Not that I’m a religious nut or anything, but where is Jesus? If anyone deserves a seat at the table…..

  3. I wondered about that as well, Bill and also why there wasn’t a Mohammed or Buddha there (that I saw). Plus the shepherd I think was Darwin. But it is an interesting piece. I was actually extremely happy they didn’t have George Bush looking through the wrong end of the telescope.

  4. Interesting how there are only 2 African Americans and they are sports figures. No Africans at all – doesn’t include Nelson Mandela?! Ending apartheid is pretty influential. Only 5 women (3 of which are celebrities, Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn and Shirley Temple), why not any suffragettes? Or, heck, even Hilary Clinton (first female to be super close to being president). Clearly the painting can’t include EVERYONE, but still a little less “white male privilege” would be nice.

*Also, Bill, not to start anything, but I’m pretty sure the term “oriental” is dated and a little incorrect. Asian is more appropriate when you don’t know the origin of the person but know they are somewhere from that part of the world.

With all that said, this is a really cool piece of internet art and the people listed are quite interesting to read a bit about!

  5. I was surprised to see Bush at all….and Clinton for that matter.

And where is Jonco in all this?

  6. The camel is awesome. As for Mohammed – its against Muslim tenant to depict images of the prophet.

Also, I’m going with Marie Curie over Machavelli – shes got an effing bun in her hair and is holding big assed peached and chemistry crap.

Also thats Rames II not Tutankahmen….

  7. We could photoshoop Jonco with a Bud in hand sliding down the Arch somewhere in the background.

  8. Jesus, Buddha and Mohammed aren’t there because there are only HISTORICAL figures there, not mythological/unconfirmed.

  9. I’m not disagreeing with you Reader, but nothing I’ve seen says Buddha, Jesus, and Mohammed were not real people and it would be hard to prove they did not have a historical impact, no matter what one’s beliefs. I did just notice that Peter/St. Peter is there. I think Nihilady was right on the money about why Mohammed is missing. And Bill, in the upper right, there are 3 Asian guys tagged as original artists. All in all, it’s a pretty neat picture.

  10. I could be missing him, but I can’t find Thomas Jefferson…Wouldn’t he be more of an influence on history (inventor, 1st US Secy of State (under GW), 3rd US President, Louisiana Purchase, Author of Declaration of Independence) than Mike Tyson or Marlon Brando?

  11. Well, DJ, something I noticed below the pic in comments was that it was someone else that added the links. I don’t believe the artists indicated who was who because there were comments indicating this one is such and such and this one is so and so. So part of it is probably interpretation (e.g. is that Kofi Anan or Nelson Mandella, John Phillips Sousa or someone else). But yeah, there are a lot of folks missing, but since it’s titled “Discussing the Divine Comedy with Dante”, it’s probably open to discussion.

  12. Overall pretty interesting, sure there’s some glaring omissions but everybody has their own idea about who was/is, important/influential…Rosie O’Donnell as a camel, I dunno, maybe a jackass. Poor old Abe Lincoln looks like he has a mowhawk

  13. Missed me?
usually I sneak in here during work hours – I still do but not much time to post..

  14. Well, as my boss mentioned when I showed him this – there sure are a helluva lot of commies! And yeah, glaring omissions – Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin, Thomas Edison to name a few. But then again its from Asian artists so from their egocentric viewpoint its probably correct, but that being the case I’m really surprised they left out the Dali Lama.
