Update:  OK kids.  I think I’m going to like this theme.  It’s very adaptable…once I figure out how to adapt it.  A few things:

  • The logo (header) will alternate between several that have been submitted so far.  Thanks to all who submitted them.  (I received one that I couldn’t read so it’s not included. I’ll add more as they come in… if they come in.)
  • Ads: I’m working on getting the ads to appear (a necessity)
  • Mugshots:  I added a page for the mugshots that you requested.  (Link at top of page or bottom of sidebar)  I just added the first few that I received a while back.  I think I’ll post them alphabetically by screen name.  I’ll add more as time allows.  (It’s time consuming because I have to manually add the pictures.)  Please be patient. I want to make sure the theme will work before I spend too much time on that page.
  • Old B&P: I put the link to the first B&P in the “About Bits & Pieces” page.
  • Recent Comments:  Now you can glance to the right and see if there are any new comments and read a little of the latest ones.
  • Favicon:  I’ve added a favicon to the page.  I tried using one with the arch that I designed, but it didn’t work.  This tiny pic of me seemed to work though.  So that’s it for now.

As always, your suggestions are appreciated. 

Please be patient as we try out and modify the layout.

  9. Something funny I noticed about the slogan now.

    Except…..”we” IS “you”. Pretty much all of submit stuff here to post, so we’re all scouring.

  10. I like it. It’ll take some getting used to, but everything does. In all, I think it’s much more readable than the last theme and I like the minimalist-white approach.

    I actually like the alternating logos, too. I know that’s only temporary…but I dig it. 🙂

  11. Geez…that Marooned story crashed my modem for several hours. When I come back, everything is different! And how’d my balls’ medical condition get over there <- ?

    I’m with Derek…I like it. Everything seems crisper and love the logos, but I’d like a little bit of color for the background. The avatars are gonna be hella fun!!

    I think I know how my balls got out…back shortly…

  12. New format looks good. Amazing attention to detail!! Do my eyes deceive, or is that a teeny tiny happy face right below the copyright notice on the bottom of each page??

  14. OK – My Balls logo apparently has something to do with the site being on WordPress. I used that logo on another WordPress=hosted site that I haven’t visited in a year or two.
    Thing is, I remember it was confusing to get the logo up and running on the site, and I don’t remember how to change it…Anybody familiar with WordPress? This is the next big thing!

  15. I’m on WordPress, and I have a custom avatar…but it’s not showing up here for some reason. No idea why.

  18. Now I’m out of ideas worse. I went to the WordPress site I thought I used this avatar on, and this isn’t the one I have on there. I don’t have a clue where this one came from.

  19. DJ – A right click tells me that your avatar is hosted through Gravatar.com. You might poke around their site and see if you can figure out how to get rid of/change it, if you’re looking to do so.

  20. Ah, I thought this was a temp theme. I didn’t really like it that much, it’s rather plain. Not much color and there’s not much in the way page style (too wide). FYI, reading is more difficult the longer the line is. Why do you think Newspapers always have columns? So people can read faster and more effectively.

  21. Going through all the headers I like HeaderNate.jpg the most. I admit mine (the black and white one) is rather bland but i still like the font.
    I think designing a logo for BP is a bit tricky, trying to either take the theme of the name or the St. Louis Theme. Nate’s done both fairly well.

    I’m glad your doing this live, Jonco. Its more fun to see all the feedback and enjoy the experience.

  24. I personally dislike the new design, its boring, it has too few and too cold colors, and its wasting space. But hey, I never came here for the design:)

  25. This layout is a huge improvement. I’m surprised you actually included many of the features I have been hoping for over the last year. Can you make the “Recent Comments” clickable to the post they go with? One thing I wish you could do is make it so we could click on comments and they appear under the post on the main page instead of having to constantly click back and forth loading a new page to see comments, then go back and reload the homepage, then repeat for every post.

    I’m not crazy about most of the headers so far. The old one needed some help, so it’s good to see you’re open to a change. I wish I knew how to make and submit my idea for one.

  27. I really like the “recent comments” feature.

    Often I go back a few pages to check if there were any new funny comments (often there are).

    Finding them shouldn’t be a problem now.

  28. As an addon to my last post, shouldn’t we be able to click on the “recent comments” and have them redirect us to the actual comment?

  29. Could you make it fixed width (and perhaps centered)?
    With this full-width layout the long lines are detrimental to readability on a widescreen monitor.

  32. The new layout is great cause I can read Bits & Pieces at work and it doesn’t look so much like a blog as someone walks past…except when there’s a photo of boobs…not that I dwell on those photos for long…really…I skim past them…I SWEAR OK?!

  38. When i first saw this, i thought i stumbled elsewhere. Took a while to figure out it was still our good ol’ B&P.

  39. I like it. For some reason, I haven’t been able to see about 30% of the posts. But it’s working fine with your new system!

  42. infidel – Go to Gravatar.com, sign up with just your email address, click on My Account, follow the instructions, upload a pic from your computer (click browse) or camera or the web, and then you need to wait 5-10 minutes for it to kick in over here…refresh B&P after a few minutes and there you are in all your famous glory. You can continue to upload pics at Gravatar so if you want to change your avatar, you can go back to Gravatar and make a real quick change.

  48. I agree that it’s rather dry and I dislike the frame set-up… The look is better, but I think whoever said something about the length of lines was correct. Also, there’s no real contrast with colors, so it all kind of flows together and has no real delineation between header/content/links.

    /just my $.02
