Pulp wood, right of way clearning, destruction of rain forest, I can think of several uses for it.
DAYUM that thing is bad@ss
I’ve seen these machines in action. It is stripping the bark, then cutting them to a preset length. These logs are then put on a truck and hauled to a lumber yard where they are square cut into lumber. The wood in your house was cut by a machine like this.
It must take some skill to work that thing. Awesome!
It’s called a feller buncher & used in the logging industry.
Bitsy,
I’m betting it’s mostly computerized.
It’s a pencil-making machine, but they cut the last few minutes of the video.
so bad.
I want one!!
What a horrible machine. No wonder our forests are depleting so rapidly 🙁
SAVE THE TREES!!
Julie, where I live the forests have been devastated by pine beetle. They are standing dead in a lot of regions. All you can see for miles and miles are red, dead trees. I’ve always agreed with selective logging as we, simply put, need wood for everything from building houses to making furniture. If these dead trees are not removed by the likes of this machine, our whole province will be the biggest campfire ever seen by NASA. A summer forest fire would likely wipe out the interior of beautiful B.C. 🙁
Added note: If the dead trees are cut soon enough, they can be still used in the building industry. The beetle turns the wood a denim blue color and is very marketable.
Trees are the most renewable natural resource we have. I would actually like to see more trees used for things than less. Besides, the industry is a lot more responsible now days. They replace every tree they take down if not in Earth’s interest, it’s in their own best interest to replace the trees they take down.
There are videos out there just as amazing as this showing how they can plant new trees just as fast as they take them down.
Very true, Sander.
^ I’m feeling good about my wood now.
In my opinion, trees and wood are the definition of “green”.
Most sustained forests plant 2 or more trees for every one cut down. Industry has a use for almost every part of a tree.
There is so much forest land on this Earth, I don’t think we could ever deplete them.
That’s a pretty cool machine and is probably the best way of using a tree efficiently.
