I bought a new Toyota Camry today. I’d post a picture of it but it’s dark and now covered in snow. (Stock photo at right)
I just got home after a long day. After several days of car shopping I settled on the Camry. Everyone says to buy a car that’s a year or two old to avoid the quick depreciation. But after looking I didn’t find that much of a difference in price between a new car and a used one. I got a demo with 4,000 miles on it, so that reduced the price quite a bit.
I’ve always hated the process of buying a new car. I’ve been told I can be “arrogant” when dealing with car salesmen in the past. But this time was quite different. My wife works at a Toyota dealer so we got what I think is a good deal. Even after agreeing on a price, the general manager cut the price a little more.
I’m not so sure today was the best day to trade cars though. I traded in a 4 wheel drive SUV and we’re supposed to get from 4–8 inches of snow tonight and tomorrow.
You have nothing to worry about with the Camry and snow. We drive one in Idaho in an area where they don’t plow the roads, it goes through with no problem. We’ve had the car two years and love it. Toyota makes great vehicles, I also drive a Tacoma two wheel drive that with sandbags in the back does very well on snow. I can’t say enough good about the Toyota experience.
Now is the time to buy. They’re throwing the things at people. My dealer called me and offered me a deal I couldn’t refuse except the enonomy is so bad I have no idea if I’ll have a job in a year.
Nice choice, it will last a lifetime.
Congrats on the “new” car! Do you chains for it? 🙂
great car, will never let you down!
Guard SGT should be stopping by any minute now to chew you out for buying a foreign car.
Hhrrmmmm? Did I get put on the spam list? A few of my comments have been removed today.
Scott,
If I’m not mistaken several of your comments had links in them. The spam filtering usually holds comments with links for me to approve (which I did). It’s typical for spam comments to hjave links and that’s why it does that.
I was in the car business for 25 years. The Camry is about the smartest buy there is, with all factors considered. The car should last 250,000 miles with no major problems, but I would recommend trading just before the odometer goes past 100,000 to best take advantage its terrific resale.
Jonco,
I realize that about the comments with links, and that’s understandable. I know I had 1 earlier for this post with no link that was here for a bit, but now it’s gone. No big deal, the comment was insignificant and doesn’t need to be posted. Just unusual for it to do that.
Good choice. Toyota and Mitsubishi are the only cars I would bother looking at.
the demos are the way to go,most places in Georgia dont do the demo thing anymore DAMN IT
Maybe guard SGT realizes that Camrys are made in the U.S.
nice choice. I own the Camry’s sister car. A honda Civic. The only reason i went with the civic over that one, was a local dealer was running a real great deal on them. Hope you enjoy your new car!
Good choice. And Camrys are made in Georgetown, KY, just north of Lexington. I work for the company that makes the engine computer and other electronic parts, also here in the US.
Just a tidbit of trivia.
In 2008, the Toyota Camry alone outsold ALL vehicles classified as cars made by Chrysler (Chrysler and Dodge) in the US.
