This was taken this past February while he was visiting St. Louis. He says, “Just wanted you to know I’ve been to the Arch…but no way would I go uptop.”
And I don’t think he means on the actual top, like to change the light bulb…. I think he means he wouldn’t ride up the elevator to the observation area. Chicken!
OMG…..im famous…………….smiles
I have ridden to the top of the arch. Those little pods are definitely not for those who are claustrophobic (sp ??). By the time we got to the top I was definitely feeling a little pressed in. I am glad for the small window in the pod. At least I could see the steps……lol
But the ride to the top was definitely worth it. We were there just as the sun went down and the view was incredible. If you have never been to the top of the arch I definitely recommend it.
Nobody ever mentions it, but there is a really great museum/visitor center under the grassy lawn at the Arch. We were passing thru St. Louis several years ago, and, seeing the Arch looming ahead of us as we drove east on I-70, we made a spur-of-the-moment decision to stop and visit. Unfortunatly, it was in December, and I guess it closes around sundown. By the time we found parking, walked what seemed like a long way to the entry, and got to the ticket window, it was too late for tickets to the top, but we did rush thru the museum…it is really well done.
Someday, I will get out that way again, and get there earlier, and get to the top.
BTW-On the Arch’s website, it says “Looking West, you’ll have a breathtaking view of downtown St. Louis. Looking East, you can see the Mississippi River and Illinois.”
LOL! You can see all of that from the parking lot. You’re IN downtown STL, and you’re parked feet from the River, and Illinois is right there on the opposite bank. They need a new promo writer!
I think you’ve got to go to the top to truly appreciate it. You CAN see STL and IL from the front, but the views are nothing compared to that of the top. The promo writer was correct, the views are wonderful. Try it out next time!
I live about 30 minutes away in O’Fallon, IL, and I haven’t been up there in several years, but I still vividly remember the views and the feeling that you are swaying back and forth several feet, when really it’s only a few inches of movement due to the wind. The top is nice, it’s got a section to lay down and look out the window, talk about a feeling of vertigo.
Gotta see the top buddy, you will dig it.
i was at the arch back in 2006? we stayed at the drury it was cool because i could see the arch from out window and the stadium..they wouldnt let me into the arch because i had a pocket knife on me
Go again and see the new ball yard, grab a cheap beer there.
He can’t go to the top as he’s busy holding it up.
Yeah, gotta go for the top in cases like this. Fear or no fear. you can’t miss it.
You have to go up to the top to get the full impact… I love the view to the west. The view of the IL side? East St. Louis from a safe distance… nice.
I haven’t been up there since I was a little kid (as I am currently living in Atlanta and have been since middle school… and am too lazy to move home), but the last time I went up there our little capsule thingie got stuck. Heh. I thought my dad was going to have a panic attack.
Does Laura know that Infidel is also in Atlanta? OMG. Run Laura, run!
HI Laura its always nice to have a person in the same area on here,I saw the King Tut thing the other day is was Soooo nice everybody near Atlanta should see it, Welcome to bits and pieces babe
