‘Three Stooges’ Headed To Big Screen

3 stooges Larry, Moe and Curly have gotten the greenlight from MGM Studios, and the Farrelly Brothers, the comedy team behind “There’s Something About Mary” and “Dumb and Dumber,” are now casting their slapstick dream.

MGM has slated the Stooges for a November 20, 2009 release date.

“The Three Stooges are a timeless staple of comedy and when we heard what the Farrellys had in mind we knew it was time for Larry, Moe and Curly to return to the big screen,” says MGM Chairman Mary Parent.

Bobby and Peter Farrelly have been talking about the movie for years. “We wrote the script like two or three years ago,” Farrelly said in 2005. “It was the hardest script we ever wrote.”

Farrelly also talked about the troubles they ahve had casting the film. “We went to Clooney,” Farrelly said. “He passed. Russell Crowe passed. Benicio was interested. Jeff Daniels was interested. We heard at some point that Sean Penn was interested for Larry. We went to Larry David for Larry and he passed. That’s been a hard one to get together.”

  1. Didn’t someone else do a Stooge movie a few years ago that bombed terribly?

The Stooge biography movie on TV with Michael Chiklis as Curly was brilliant. Best thing he’s done.

Big mistake with this one is setting it in present day. It’ll bomb badly. Stooges should be set in the 30s-40s; keep it in period and it’ll WORK.

  2. I agree with Gerry to keep it in the 30s-40s, but also some of the appeal of the Stooges was in the low budget, short stories, early b&w grainy filming and choppy editing, and simply it being those particular numbskulls. The last one flopped. I don’t think it can be redone. If they can actually pull it off, good for them.

  3. Only the original Three Stooges could ever be the Three Stooges.
They shouldn’t even try a remake. It’s doomed from the start.

BTW…If you ever get a chance, watch the episode about the Three Stooges on Biography on A&E. It is so personal and poignant…The old home movies of them and their families as they neared the ends of their lives will bring tears to your eyes and make you truly admire them, not only as actors but as real men.
You can probably get it from your library.
