Well, the majority is with me. As of now 50% of the 862 voters pronounce Halloween the same way I do: “HAL-o-ween.” My family and friends are all crazy. If it were HOLLOW-ween it would be spelled Holloween!
Actually, the dictionary says either way is acceptable: HOLLOW-ween or HAL-o-ween.
Thanks for playing!
I mis-voted….
I pronounce it HAL-o-ween as in shallow. I didn’t know there WERE other ways to say it.
I would think those 4 choices would about cover it. Jonco, if everyone is laughing, just how are you pronounciating it??
gggrrr Bostonian accent for me
I say HOLLOW-ween and my boyfriend says HAL-oween. We were debating about the ‘proper’ way to say it all month! haha
He’s pretty happy that 47% side with him. XD
Technically, since it is Samhain, the correct pronunciation is SOW-EN
HOLLOW-ween
The proper term is All Hallows Eve.

Okay, it’s after the fact, but good to know that I am not crazy. I moved to Maine and all of a sudden, everyone says holloween…what?!?
I grew up in Mass. and have always said Halloween (rhymes with shalloween.) Sounds so silly to me to hear anything else!
HALLOWEEN—- HALL SPELLS HALL,AS IN HALLWAY. THERE ARE TWO L’S. HAL SPELLS A NAME, SUCH AS HAL.ONLY ONE L. SO IT SHOULD BE HALL-O , NOT HAL-O.
