I think the real reason most saw in going into Iraq was because thought by most every intelligence in the world to have WMD’s (yeah, I’m still sick of hearing “WMD” too). I read statements before the war from Hillary, John Kerry, and about every other “left” politician saying they KNEW that Saddam had WMD’s, and it was only a matter of time before he used them, or SOMEONE ELSE acquired them FROM him. He was busted years ago trying to make nukes, and Israel blew up his reactor (this was in the same era of when he really did have, make, AND use WMD’s). He showed that he would make and use them in the past, the question was, was he still doing it? I think some tried to connect them with the 9/11 attack, but the heart of the matter was that people didn’t want his weapons to get traded to others who WOULD like to use them on us. In the past we pretty much had Saddam “cross his heart and hope to die” that he would destroy his WMD stockpile, and that he wouldn’t make any more in the future. And fyi, they found stockpiles of the stuff he made years ago, just nothing new like we thought he was making.
Did Iraq have anything do do with 9/11?…no. Would Saddam have loved to help someone do something again?…yes without a doubt in my mind. Should we have invaded Iraq, or tried other means for longer periods of time?…probably. Either way, Saddam needed to either be removed somehow or neutered. He was WAY more evil and cruel than Hitler and Mussoline wrapped up in one, and with him in power anywhere was a danger to everyone…funny enough, especially for his mortal enemy of Iran. You’d think they’d buddy up to us now.
