This video comes from Boston’s Fenway Park. It was Disability Awareness day at the baseball park. Mentally challenged children got VIP treatment. One young man even sang the national anthem to open the game.
But singing in front of a full stadium could unnerve anyone. He got nervous and stumbled while singing. But the entire stadium came to his rescue. What they did will warm your heart.
Aww that was so precious!
Got me a little teary eyed there…
Wow, you don’t see that often! That was purely amazing right there!
That could have gone either way there…Boston (??!) came through.
This time.
Your anthem always brings a tear to my eye. It is one to be proud of. I wish ours was as good!
Outstanding…. THAT shows what this country is all about.
Wow, that was beautiful. I’m not an American, and I don’t know your song. But my younger brother is mentally handicapped and to see everyone rally to this guys side like this was wonderful!
And yeah, your song is nice. Better than Advance Australia Fair, unless you sing it to Jimmy Barnes’ “Working Class Man”.
Seriously. Girt? Who the hell sings about “Girt”?
This would make any person or country PROUD.
That was soo nice
Ha ha…he forgot the words! Classic!
(Someone had to…sorry.)
touching but it would have been really funny if he said go yankees at the end
I haven’t watched the video because I can’t, I know it; I’ll burst into tears. But I want to tell you I saw this happen at a minor league ballgame here in Michigan a couple of summers ago. The little boy singing the anthem for the Lansing Lugnuts that afternoon was perhaps 10 or 11 and had been confined to a wheelchair, I’m sure throughout his entire life. Within the first stanza of the song, his voice cracked, and his nerves overcame him. In pained frustration and embarrassment, he pushed the microphone away and was going to give up entirely, when the capacity stadium of about 3,000 people picked up where he left off (including me, who does not usually sing along). After a moment to gather himself, he began singing again, and we all finished the anthem together. Dang, I can’t even TYPE the story without tearing up, and I’m one of the least sentimental people I’ve ever met!
DC – I’m with ya. Watched it. Teared up. Funny how moving a song, and gesture can mean so much.
Correction, Christiaan25. It’s what America SHOULD be about.
That was so heartwarming. Thanks, Jonco.
That was terrific! I’m a dad of a special needs child and that was a remarkable display of compassion and understanding.
I was having a somewhat crappy day until I watched this video and well….my day is still crappy, but it does go to show that there is still some positivity left out there in this world!
It warmed my pants, does that count too?
Christiaan…. your country is about people fucking up the National Anthem?
Nice!
It’s awesome to know there are such good people here….the Anthem always makes me tear up. great video.
it shows good people are still in this world
