I was heading to school when word of this hit the radio waves. When I got there, I got to the nearest TV, where they were showing played back footage of Tower 1 collapsing. Just then, Tower 2 fell, and this time, it was live. I realized that hundreds or thousands of people must have just died right before my eyes. It’s not something I’ll soon forget.
I’ve been wishing people a happy 9/11 all day. For some reason, no one’s said it back.
My calendar says today is Patriot Day.
/facepalm
Someone please pass the freedom fries.
Jimbo, I’m like you as I’m sure many people are. That time will be etched in our memory, whatever country we are from, forever. God Bless the Heroes and Their Families.
Jimbo – I do think we need to name it something other than “9/11”, mostly because that’s redundant to put on calendars. Not a big fan of “Patriot Day,” though. I mean “Pearl Harbor Day” makes sense for THAT day…why not something like “Ground Zero Day” or “Twin Towers Day?” Or even “Remembrance Day (to cover the other two planes)?” “9/11” is just a date, most years. It was significant once, and that’s certainly worth remembering…but for all the people who celebrate it as their birthday, it might be nice for “9/11” not to be thought of as a horrible thing everytime someone says it. I’d really like to name it something…why has no one worked on that? Or did we just somehow land on “Patriot Day” and no one told me until now?
Remember September 11, 1973, when Democracy died – and Americans helped to kill it. Remember Salvador Allende!
Doesn’t Boston already have a day called Patriot Day in spring??
