Cows have strange sixth sense

Cows googled

“A study of Google Earth satellite images has revealed that herds of cattle tend to face in the north-south direction of Earth’s magnetic lines. Staring at cows may not equal the thrill of spotting celebrities in public or rubbernecking at car accidents, but the researchers found nonetheless that our bovine friends display this strange sixth sense for direction.”

  1. Maybe they like the sun to warm up the sides of their bodies. Also a possibility for standing that way that has nothing to do with magnetic fields. Either way, they are yummy.

  2. When cows are grazing in a pasture they are always facing the same direction. They always face into the wind (or breeze as the case may be). My dad said it was because that is where they smell the food coming from.

If I remember correctly this little bit of trivia was mentioned in Huck Finn. When he was dressed up as a girl to sneak into town, it was one of the questions the lady asked him to establish he was from the country after she had figured out he was a boy.

    Weird what you remember.

  3. “A cow with its tail to the west, makes weather the best; A cow with its tail to the east, makes weather the least.”

This New England saying has much truth in it, for an animal grazes with its tail to the wind. This is a natural instinct, so the animal may face and see an invader; and invader from the opposite side would carry out its scent to the cow, in the wind. In as much as an east wind is a rain wind and a west wind is a fair wind, the grazing animal’s tail becomes a weather sign.

  4. thanks for the mind screw Woohoo…

how about the grazing animal’s tail becaomes a weather sign:
    if wet then raining
    if frozen then cold
if hot and dry then not raining or cold…lol
