We went for a ride today. The forecast was for hot and humid weather in the upper 90’s. We met some friends for breakfast at a neighborhood bar and grill, then off on our motorcycle trip. First stop was Greensfelder County Park in west St. Louis County, not far from Six Flags. The park has facilities for horseback riding, hiking, biking, camping, hayrides, picnicking and a learning center just for starters. We just rode around the tree covered roads throughout the park. A very nice, naturistic park.
Then we rode over to Babler State Park, located in Wildwood MO. It’s another beautiful nature park that has similar facilities as Greensfelder. We enjoyed riding it’s tree-lined roads which provided plenty of shade… at least while we were in there. The temperature reached 99°F this afternoon, and we felt every degree when we were in the sun.
Then we headed out to the Sugar Creek Winery in Defiance MO, where a friend of one of my riding buddy’s was supposed to be playing in a band.
When we got there, to my surprise were a couple dozen of my friends and family….. sweltering in the heat for a surprise 60th birthday party for me (damn, that’s old). My birthday isn’t until this coming Thursday, but they were all there. My brother and sister-in-law even came in from Kansas City. It was a very nice surprise.
Some skipped out early because of the heat but some stayed for several hours. There were a few places where there was a nice breeze, but it was hot. I was telling everyone that in my next life I’ll be born in January so it’s not so hot. It was too hot to drink any wine, which is just as well, since we were riding motorcycles, so I stuck to water and soda.
It was good to get back on the bike for the ride home since there was a constant breeze. Highway 94 out that way is a great ride. It was a nice day with a nice surprise. Thanks to those who bore the heat to help me celebrate.
Well happy birthday for Thursday!!! I’ll try and remember on Thursday but I am pregnant and am constantly forgetting things (including what day it is!).
60’s not that old! And you ride a harley, you’re still cool!
Musta been one helluva party…looks like you got leied!
Happy future birthday!
Happy Thursday Birthday!
I ride a scooter and we have a group that goes out on long country rides as well, so I always enjoy hearing about where you travel on your bikes.
Here’s to many many more years of safe riding and great blogging!
WoW 60 ! I give to you 10 years less . Happy birthday 🙂
Happy Birthday Jonco… sounds like a cool but hot ride to a great surprise… plus you Be the STUD @ 60… riding in 99 plus humidity… I’m 50 and that would kill me off…lol… I don’t take humid very well but have never rode a bike in high humidity… just 90 degree with maybe 65%humidity… which is hot and some what dry compared to back east standards… I have also rode in 100 degree and 25-30% humidity as in desert riding… that too sucks… you can get dehydrated pretty easy/fast and with dehydration comes lack of good judgment (so they say)… so with that said, I usually ride covered up so the sweat doesn’t evaporate which causes dehydration. but it’s brutal to say the least…
With that said, when you ride as in this ride, do you get wet and stay wet riding??? or do you have to wear some kind of jacket??? My only few experiences with high humidity back east is you walk out the door from A/C and you turn instantly wet, and it’s hard to breath…lol…
and a good time was had by all…happy birthday old man…
You don’t look a day over 55. (Really, you look great!) Keep living the good life and happy early birthday!
I’m really sorry I missed that. Wanted to be there, but just couldn’t make it. Hope it was actually as much fun as you’re claiming. 🙂
Happy upcoming birthday!!! Don’t be born in January, all you ever get is a sled from a tired looking mother who hasn’t recovered from Christmas yet. My birthday is January 9th, and I teach (for 23 years) and I have YET to get a snow day on my birthday!!!!!
Jonco, you are so cute! Happy Birthday and many more – love your website!!!
What a great surprise! Happy Birthday!
Congrats on hitting 60! Love your blog, visit it frequently and tell all my friends (all 2 of them : ) hehe)…
January birthday’s suck – mine is on the 7th – too close to Christmas to get anything really cool…
