Independence Day celebration in Independence MO

After a leisurely ride across Missouri, with stops in Rocheport and Arrow Rock, we ended up in Independence.  After checking into our hotel we headed over to world famous Gates BBQ for some delicious food.

Then we made our way to the Mormon Church of Latter Day Saints in Independence for their 10 annual fireworks extravaganza (which we found out about online.  Alond with a few thousand others we waited and watched the fireworks display.  Below are just a couple pics from the evening.

Tomorrow we’re off to The Truman Library and Steamboat Arabia.  We’re going to try to visit the Power and Light District.

  1. Anybody else not surprised that the Mormons make it a tradition to try to blow up the sky?

(j/k…no offense to any Mormons out there.)

  2. Not sure I understand the Mormon comment. Are they the only ones who “blow up the sky?” You got me on that one.

  3. Ryan,
Those pics were taken with a Sony DSC-T1. It has a fireworks setting and I hand held it. I took about 25 fireworks pics and a couple videos with the camera. Some of the pics were blurry, but some others were like these two.

  4. @ Nicole – Just a joke about the Mormons being weird. It was funny to me at the time. It was late. I was tired. …it was stupid…
