The following is the 2007 winning entry from an annual contest at Texas A&M University calling for the most appropriate definition of a contemporary term. This year’s term was “Political Correctness”.
The winner wrote:
“Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.”
Thanks Joe P
It works better without the editorial comment between the commas.
“Political Correctness is a doctrine that holds forth the proposition that it is possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.”
How about this:
“Political Correctness is a derogatory term aimed at those who believe it is wrong to denigrate people soley on their race, sex, age, or disability.”
Pure brilliance!
I disagree with SD. This part of the definition drives to the heart of what fuels the idiology of PC itself.
No, think about it. Those who are FOR political correctness, at least to the rest of the world, appear to be completely moronic and insane, right? So the idea of making the statement as complex and grammatically accurate as possible will enhance the effect, much as if you insulted a high school bully with the vocabulary of an english major in college. Insults are so much more entertaining to say when he who you are insulting has no idea what you just said and you can watch them stutter over themselves as they try to still look cool. A quote i heard roughly sums it up: “Regardless of who you are, or what you do, there is no way to be cool when getting up after falling on your ass, so just do it, and walk on.”
Miss Celiana leaves out the most important part of her definition:
“Political Correctness is a derogatory term aimed at those who believe it is wrong to denigrate people soley on their race, sex, age, or disability,”…..
and that it is acceptable and, indeed, desireable to fire those who do so from their jobs, have them expelled from school, kicked out of clubs and civic organizations, demand their resignation from elected political office, have their writings and speech censored and banned from academic and public repositories of knowledge, and in general, trample underfoot every cherished ideal of free speech. Therefore, political correcteness is a form of fascism.
