Seriously, keep well out of their way, keep pets well out of their way.
They can cause serious irritation to human skin and if the hairs are inhaled by dogs or cats severe damage to the nostrils and huge vets bills too. If ingested by an inquisitive dog, severe damage to the lips, tongue and throat can occur. The dog can die as a result. Do not disturb any chrysalys; do not try to burn them the hairs will spread.
They are generally found in pine forested areas between February and May.
