February 3rd – The day the music died

CrashheadlineFifty-one years ago today, a plane crashed shortly after taking off from Clear Lake, Iowa, killing all four people aboard. They were pilot Roger Peterson, Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and J.P. Richardson, known as “The Big Bopper.” February 3rd, 1959, became known as The Day the Music Died.

Valens, Richardon, and Holly were on tour with a show called “The Winter Dance Party Tour” with Dion and the Belmonts. The tour bus was so cold and miserable that one band member reportedly developed frostbite. Buddy Holly had had enough, and decided to charter a plane in Clear Lake to fly to Fargo, North Dakota for the next gig. Dwyer Flying Service was hired for $36 a seat, and the plane was ready to leave after the show at the Surf Ballroom. Waylon Jennings, a backup singer for the show, relinquished his seat on the plane to Richardson because he was running a fever. Another backup singer, Tommy Allsup, lost his chance to fly in a coin flip with Valens.

She didn’t feel a thing

Stab woundTHIS mugging victim had a six inch knife plunged deep into her back — and she didn’t even feel it.

The shocking picture shows the blade sticking out just above Julia Popova’s shoulders and blood pouring from the wound.

Incredibly the 22-year-old, who was knifed by a mugger on her way home from work, failed to notice the appalling injury and managed to calmly stroll to safety.

The office worker had grappled with her attacker when he snatched her handbag as she walked to her parents’ house in the Russian capital Moscow.

But she was so shocked by the ordeal she didn’t know that the thug had buried a kitchen knife in her neck just fractions of an inch from her spinal cord.

When she got home her horrified parents rushed her to hospital where surgeons managed to remove the blade without damaging Julia’s spine.

One medic said: “Shock had kicked in and her body prevented her from feeling any pain. She simply walked home without feeling the knife in her back.”

Hat’s off to Scott

I hope the rest of you are enjoying the wittiness of Scott’s cracks… wisecracks that is, as much as I am.  He adds a lot to this site.  I especially enjoy it when he gets on a roll with a particular ‘theme’.  I enjoy everyones cleverness, but Scott goes above and beyond.

Thank you Scott and keep up the good work!

Breasts or Legs ?

Last night I was talking to a young, good looking woman.  She asked me if I liked breasts or legs.

“Breasts or Legs?”, she insisted.

I told her what I really liked was a shaved snatch.

Apparently I’m not welcome back at KFC anymore.

Thanks Gene
