The other funny thing is that about 99.8% of the animals shown at the Du Page County fair are not raised in Du Page County. Du Page County, Illinois, is near Chicago and is mostly suburban.

My wife and I grew up in small towns (me in Ohio, her in Illinois) and we now live in Du Page County. We go to the fair each year and I always laugh on how small it is--but it is a fun day and our son loves the bumper cars (as do I...).

Taken further, the 'good roads' is actually a consumption tax on fuel, but it is sent to the fed where it is washed through several levels of bureaucracy and poorly distributed back to the states (or raided for other purposes). If we're going to have fuel taxes, leave them in the state where they can repair the roads where the fuel is consumed.

Education? Throwing dollars toward education has not resolved the problems with schools.

Defense? Yep, that's in the constitution. That doesn't mean there isn't room to cut, but cuts need to be with surgical precision rather than with a buzzsaw.

Old people on the streets? Well, perhaps that's a reference to Social Security, but if you take it as entitlements as a whole, that's another area in need of serious reform.

Finding a doctor that won't take Medicare? Yeah, that's getting to be more troublesome, but it's because the Medicare reimbursement rates are very poor. Additionally, with Obamacare, there will be an increase in regulations, an increase in consumption, and a decrease in available providers as Doctor's retire rather than fighting it anymore.

So basically, taxes are not the solution. Spending is the problem. Increasing taxes rather than reforming our budget (or lack thereof) doesn't help.
