If Christ Had Not Come

If Christ had not come, there’d be no Christmas Day.
There’d be no Christmas trees, with gifts on display;
There’d be no present given and no carols sung,
There’d be no Christmas stockings, on bed to be hung.
There’d be no cards sent to let friends know,
The Saviour came down to this earth below.
There’d be no Peace on earth, or goodwill to men,
Or hope of Christ Jesus returning again.
There’d be no New Testament, with stories to tell,
How Christ performed miracles, and made people well.
How he set us examples, and showed us the way,
To help one another and taught us to pray.
There’d be no bridge gulfed between God and man,
Of the promised fulfillment of the salvations’ plan.
There’d be no cross to remind us that God once came,
Revealed in Christ Jesus this world to reclaim.
So let us remember and thankfully say,
We are glad Christ was born and we have Christmas Day.

A preacher finished the service one morning by saying,

“Next Sunday, I’m going to preach on the subject of LIARS. As a preparation for my sermon, I would like you all to read Mark 17.”

On the following Sunday, the preacher rose to begin. Looking out at the congregation he said,

“Last week I asked you all to read Mark 17. If you have read the chapter, please raise your hand. Nearly every hand in the congregation went up. Smiling, the preacher said, “You are the very people I want to talk to. Mark only has 16 Chapters.”
