Weekend Open Mic

Weather:  In a word: fluctuating!  We missed a few inches of snow on Friday after it getting near 70°F on Thursday.  Might hit a record cold on Saturday then start warming up mid-week.

The Weekend: Nothing major planned for the weekend.  The week ahead: I have a funeral to attend and am going to the Cardinals game with a group of friends on Tuesday night.

TV Binging: Finished 3 seasons of Broadchurch.  I liked the first 2 seasons much better than the third.  Started watching a new season of Death In Paradise (Netflix) Friday night.

Weekend Open Mic

Weather: Spring rains have drenched the St. Louis area most of the past week and it looks like we’re in for quite a bit more this coming week. We might even get an inch or two of snow on Easter Sunday afternoon.

The weekend:  Not a whole lot planned for the weekend.  Dinner with friends Saturday evening and an Easter Brunch with family around noon on Sunday.

TV Binging:  Watched two seasons of Broadchurch (Netflix) this past week.  I really like it., but had to turn on closed captions on because of the strong British accent. One more season (8 episodes) to go.

Weekend Open Mic

Weather: Looks like we’re in for a good mixture of weather as we bring in the spring season on Tuesday.

The weekend: Going to a St. Patrick’s Day party on Saturday afternoon and evening.  Not sure what’s going on Sunday yet.

Colonoscopy update: Talked to the doctor about the results of the lab work on the three polyps removed during my recent colonoscopy. They were benign but pre-cancerous.  He explained to me that there are two kinds of benign polyps; totally benign and pre-cancerous. That means that the pre-cancerous ones would likely develop into cancer if not removed.

TV Binging: We’re into the 6th and final season of Downton Abbey (Amazon).  Hopefully get it finished this week.  Not sure what We’ll start on then.

P.S.Sorry Stanley Stanley emailed this week and informed me of this: I have visited your website daily, for years. But I don’t want to hear about your personal or medical issues.  I don’t want to see political posts. I don’t want to see anything filthy like this post.  Plese keep it clean for everybody, or I will just drop this website.

Weekend Open Mic

Weather: Still not too bad for mid-March.  They say the rain Sunday might end as snow Sunday night but it won’t amount to much.

The weekend: I don’t have a lot planned this weekend.  A lunch on Saturday celebrating a niece’s birthday is about the only thing scheduled.

Medically speaking:  I had what I think was my fifth colonoscopy on Monday morning after a fun Sunday staying very close to home. Everything went well except they found and removed three polyps.  I’m supposed to call them in 10 days to get the lab results.
I’ve also experienced two episodes in the last couple of weeks of my eyes feeling like they were crossing involuntarily and not being able to focus because of that.  It lasted what seemed like a minute or two but probably was 30-45 seconds.  The second time it happened (yesterday) I grabbed my phone and took a selfie and it looked like one eye was trying to make a run for the border.  I’ve had migraines and this was definitely different.  Getting older sure is fun!

Weekend Open Mic

Weather: Not bad for the beginning of March.  While I’d prefer temps in the 60s and 70’s I’m okay with this weather.  It sure beats what’s going on on both coasts and some of the rest of the country this weekend.

The weekend:  Have a funeral service to go to Saturday afternoon and then we’re going to a fundraiser for Make-A-Wish on Saturday evening.  Sunday I’ll be skipping a family birthday party as I have other plans. (see below)

Oh poop: Sunday I’ll be prepping for a colonoscopy scheduled for first thing Monday Morning. It’s a routine 5-year internal investigation.  I’ve had 4 or 5 of them so far and each time they change the preparation procedure.  This year’s timetable has me drinking the nasty juice at 6 pm and 4 am (Monday) with pills starting early in the afternoon to get the ball rolling.  I think my plan of watching the Oscars broadcast will be interrupted so much that I’ll just end up listening to the Oscars mostly.

The eyes have it:  I went to the eye doctor on Thursday for my annual checkup.  I haven’t been there since late 2015 so I’m stretching the definition of ‘annual’ quite a bit. Seems I have cataracts beginning to form.  They’re not to the point that I have to do something about them yet.  The doctor said they grow at different rates for different people.  I can tell that it’s a little harder to see while driving at night. My vision prescription has changed a little so I’m getting new lenses put into a pair of frames I had.

Weekend Open Mic

Weather: Not too bad for the end of February in this part of the country.

The weekend:  We’re going to a family birthday party Saturday afternoon and to a trivia night (that we put together last year, but retired from) on Saturday evening.

Binging: We’re into season three of Downton Abbey.  Haven’t watched a whole lot of anything else. We’ll be watching The Walking Dead‘s second half of the season as it kicks off Sunday night.

Movies:  In December I purchased two moviepass cards on an $89 (each) special at Costco. A moviepass card allows you to go to one movie every day for a year. It works at more than 90% of theaters nationwide and only for 2D movies (no 3D films). I had a lot of trouble getting it set up correctly but it’s finally working right. Part of that was my fault as I entered the wrong email address into the account. If we go to just one movie a month it more than pays for itself.  We’ve already seen six films.  My goal is to see all the Oscar-nominated films before the Academy Awards broadcast next weekend. So we have three left to see, but I don’t believe one of them (Dunkirk) is still out. I’ll have to do some research.

Weekend Open Mic

Weather: It’s crazy!  Thursday it reached a record high 80°F,  and Friday the high was in the upper 30s. Saturday morning we woke up to snow falling. They always have said that if you don’t like the weather in St. Louis, just wait a few minutes… it’ll change. The coming week looks almost as crazy.

The weekend: We’re going to tour a chocolate factory on Saturday.  I don’t think there are any other plans for the weekend.

Binging:  We started two new shows, The Magicians (Netflix) and Downton Abbey (Amazon). We’re about 4 or 5 episodes in on both. Both are interesting though I’m not sure if we’ll keep up on both of them.

Open Mic:  Don’t forget that this post is a place for you to comment on anything off topic that you care to address. I only ask that all comments be respectful and civil.

Weather: Well, it’s cold and nasty but it could be colder and a lot worse.

The weekend:  We’re going to a trivia night on Saturday evening.  This is the one I used to put together.  It’s a lot nicer leaving it in other capable hands.  On Sunday we’re going to a Super Bowl party to watch the commercials… oh and maybe some football.

My Fats:  I went to the doctor for a check-up earlier this week. It seems the blood workup I had late last week showed that my triglycerides levels are way too high. Triglycerides are the fats in your blood. I’ve been dealing with high levels of fat in my blood for more than 20 years I guess.  It’s been under control with meds and healthier eating.  Apparently, I’ve scratched the ‘healthier’ part of ‘healthier eating’ the last several months. Normal levels are below 150, ideally about 120, and mine scored a whopping 973. Doc said that was dangerously high. He also said my sugar levels were higher than they should be. So, he’s increased my meds and I’ve begun a trend of eating better.  He suggested I consider a plant-based diet but I don’t think I could do that.  I can certainly eat much better than I have been lately without cutting ALL the good foods from my diet.  I’m also exercising a little more now which will also help.  Those efforts should also help me shed the 15 pounds I’ve gained in the last few months.
