  1. I was working on a job in downtown Cleveland about 5 yrs ago and they were filming right outside of my jobsite on Euclid Avenue. Movie was “Captain America – Winter Soldier”, and they kept redoing some kind of chase scene with out of state cop cars. We spent out lunch hour watching the action and behind the scenes stuff.

  2. I could see Sharon Stone from my kitchen when she was filming Diabolique a couple blocks from my house when I lived south of Pittsburgh in the mid 90’s. My house is in the background of a few scenes. I remember seeing the whole set up with lights and cranes making it rain at night.

  3. I live in Miami so there’s plenty (and plenty of porn too I’m sure….). Personally they’ve taped Burn Notice and Ballers in the area I work in so I’ve been on set with off-duties for both…

  4. Paul Newman’s Nobody’s Fool and Super Troopers were made in and around my small hometown. In places I’ve literally been in.

  5. They shot lab exteriors for “Species II” at the water treatment facility in Laurel, MD when I was living there in the 1990s; got to the set just after they closed extras casting.

Exterior shots of antebellum houses and the local mansion in my hometown in Alabama for “Sweet Home Alabama”. Reese Witherspoon was never there, only the B camera team.

  6. The current season of “stranger things”, “doom patrol” and “walking dead” are all filmed right around here, as were several marvel movies (including spiderman;homecoming, captain America:civil war, guardians of the galaxy 2 ant man and the wasp and others.

    • I watched the filming from my office window of the scene at the beginning of captain America:civil war where they chased the thieves that had stolen the weapon from that (cdc?) Facility into a street market where scarlet witch sent the bomb in the air that blew up near the top of an office building. Coincidentally that was the exact same area where they filmed parts of ant man and the wasp where Pym had his huge shrinking office building and later in the movie when Luis in his van gets cut off by a bunch of henchman under a bridge, that is the exact same bridge where that street vendor scene was filmed… in infinity war the scene where Tony, Steven strange, banner and Wong first spot the alien ship was filmed 2 blocks away from that location in downtown atlanta. (Right next to a courthouse)The street was decorated to look similar to a street in Manhattan but that set was in Atlanta. Coincidentally when Tony takes off his glasses he would have been looking almost directly at a schwarma restaurant on the corner in front of him.

    • The dairy queen in “guardians of the galaxy 2” is about 2 miles from where I lived most of my youth. I used to go there when I went to college (right across the street) the really amazing part is that I did not recognize it at all in the movie… the area around that dairy queen looks fairly remote and surrounded by trees in the movie but it is actually in a very commercial area surrounded on all sides by buildings and looks nothing like the set… I didn’t believe it was the same spot until pausing the movie and looking very closely at the pavement, parking lot and layout of the building. It hasn’t even been a dairy queen in years.. they restored the signs on a former dq just for the movie. It is currently a salon that does hair weaves…

  7. Bronco Billy was filmed in my hometown. I am an extra on set.
Pale Rider was filmed near Sun Valley, Idaho. I am an extra on set.
Breakfast of Champions (Bruce Willis movie) was filmed in the town I was living in at the time. I am an extra on set.
There have been some porn films filmed here. I am NOT an extra on set.
2C Entertainment is owned by a cousin. He filmed Soda Springs with Tom Skerritt in Idaho and again I am an extra on set.

Being an extra is not what you think very boring.

A cousin was an extra on the set of Cannonball Run in Las Vegas. He is standing right behind Ms. Adrienne Barbeau (he’s the towheaded kid).

  8. I live in Orlando. My condo has been in countless movies and TV shows. I love it. Many of my neighbors aren’t amused, lol

  9. Escape from New York. When Lee Van Cleef arrives in the prison in a helicopter, there is a brick building in the background with a grey stripe of concrete about 2-3 stories up. My mom worked in that building.

  10. Several movies come to mind for me. A scene from Larger Than Life with Bill Murray was filmed at Holy Cross Church about 2 or 3 blocks from where I grew up. They put up a wrought iron fence around the church and rented tombstones from a local tombstone business to make it look like the church had a cemetery alongside it. A lot of work for a very short scene in the movie.

Several scenes from John Carpenter’s Escape From New York (1981) were filmed in the St. Louis area. They used the old Chain of Rocks Bridge that crosses the river in north St. Louis. At the STL side of the bridge they build a very tall plywood wall (probably 60 or 70 feet high) that was painted to look like concrete and used it as the prison wall. They also filmed a plane crash scene in a deteriorated part of downtown St. Louis and other scenes in other locations.

One of my personal favorites was Manhunter (1986) because one of my personal friends was a mechanic for Delta Airlines and he happened to be on the tarmac and they got him to use the orange flashlights to direct a small plane into a safe area for unloading. We had a big party for him when the movie opened and got the theater to even put his name on the marquee. We had a limousine driving around the theater many time delivering “special guests” (us) and then the “star”. We set up a stand and had the “movie star” sign autographs. We even got a little write up in the local newspaper. The real kicker is that they cut his small part out of the film. What a great night we had.

Susan Sarandon and James Spader filmed the steamy White Palace (1990) at a small diner in downtown St. Louis and at a house in what’s called the Dogtown neighborhood.

George Clooney and crew filmed much of Up In The Air (2009) at St. Louis Lambert Airport and at Afton High School.

Part of Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987) with Steve Martin and John Candy was also filmed at St. Louis Lambert Airport.

Then there’s Fever Pitch, which was filmed at Busch Stadium and several lesser know films.

  11. 3:10 to Yuma (1957), Angel and the Bad Man, Broken Arrow (1950), The Fabulous Texan, just to name a few. There were many, many more filmed right here as well. The old movie set sat about 200 feet from where my house now sits.

  12. Parts of “Signs” were filmed in the town where I work and most of “Lady in the Water” (a TERRIBLE movie) was shot about 2 miles from my house on a set built on the grounds of an abandoned 3M plant.

    • “The Puppet Master” with Donald Sutherland was filmed (exteriors) in Fresno, CA where I lived. They use streets and the City Hall building.
“The Great Outdoors” with John Candy and Dan Aykroyd was filmed at Bass Lake, 1 hour north of Fresno.
Recently, the crash scene by the lake in Captain Marvel was filmed at Shaver Lake, 1 hour northeast of Fresno in March 2018.

  13. I made the pottery for the TV series “Spartacus” (39 episodes), the studio is a couple of km from my home. Also made the pottery for the upcoming movie “Mulan”. This studio is a bit further away but most of the staff were the same. Auckland, New Zealand

  14. An oldie … Picnic was partially filmed in Halstead, Kansas. It was filmed during the Old Settlers Picnic so a lot of us local kids were there and in the scenes. I was in one scene but got trampled by the older kids so totally out of sight.

  16. When I was stationed in the Phiilppines there was a film crew working on “Hamburger Hill” – about a particularly bloody battle in Vietnam; I was an extra in the film and managed to get myself killed in 2 different scenes all on the same day…

It wasn’t that great of a movie but it was fun showing my daughter how I got myself killed twice before she was even concieved… –

  17. There were 455 movies and TV episodes shot in Georgia last year. You couldn’t go anywhere without tripping over a set or some actor. The last one that I saw being made was “Hidden Figures”.

  18. John Wayne’s “The Hellfighters” was filmed partially in my hometown of Baytown, Texas. That was 1968, and I was 4, so I don’t really remember it. But I do remember watching it on TV around 1975 (age 11) and asking if it was real because I recognized some places. That’s kind of surreal for a kid. Then, years later, I had my high school pictures taken by a photographer who had been on the set the whole time they were in town. He had lots of photos.

  19. Dead Zone was filmed not too far from me in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario in 1983, and at the Screaming Tunnel in Niagara Falls. I could watch that movie over and over again just for the houses and scenery. I was also at the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum near Hamilton around 1998 when they were filming some movie about a virus. As someone else said, pretty tedious to watch scenes being shot over and over again.

  20. “The Sterile Cuckoo” with Lisa Minelli was filmed all around my local area, Rome NY. Paul Newman’s “Slapshot” was filmed in part at the War Memorial Auditorium here in Utica. Most recently, scenes at the beginning of “A Quiet Place” was filmed on the streets of Little Falls. The Central New York area (Mohawk Valley) has been getting quite a bit of film activity in recent years, especially among young, independent producers and directors. Maybe they’re everywhere.

  21. Mean Creek was filmed a few miles up Lewis River, WA from where I lived. I visited the set but only saw the film crew. TV show Grimm was filmed a lot around my job in Portland, OR. I walked into the local park for lunch one day and thought it seemed different..then suddenly realized they had added a bunch of temporary trees for filming.

  23. When I worked in Manhattan, I had an office overlooking 6th Avenue (aka Avenue of the Americas). They shot a couple street scenes for 2 Weeks Notice with Hugh Grant and Sandra Bullock on the sidewalk below my window. I didn’t get so much work done that day.

  24. The Trona Pinnacles are about 30 miles east of me. There are TV shows, movies, and commercials shot there quite often. It’s where they found God, literally, in one of the Star Trek movies. 11 miles west of me is a tiny town named Inyokern, It’s little airport is painted black and striped like a road because this airstrip is often the site of car commercials. Last fall this airport was the site of some filming for the sequel for Top Gun. Some of the pilots from the Naval Air Station here were on the set as consultants. The only thing that impressed the pilot I know was how extensive the catered buffet was and that, while the other actors and crew stayed here in town during the week or so here, Tom Cruise flew in from LA every morning and flew back every evening.
