Roy Rogers – Double Crosser

I grew up watching this and other western type television shows.  The Adventures of Wild Bill Hickok, The Lone Ranger, The Rifleman, Gunsmoke, Maverick, The Cisco Kid, Annie Oakley, Sky King, Davey Crockett and of course Bonanza.  I have vague memories of Gabby Hayes, Gene Autrey, The Rebel and Sergeant Preston.

Thanks, Ed C

  1. My favorite of those was Sky King. Besides Mouseketeer Karen [w00tw00t], one of my first tv crushes was Sky King’s daughter Penny.

    • I went to the Fireman’s Rodeo in St. Louis when I was about 12 or 13 I guess and Sky King and Penny were the featured celebrities that year. We were sitting way up on the third lever in what’s known as the nose-bleed sections. The drove a hook and ladder fire truck into the arena and extended the giant ladder way up to near where we were seated. Penny climbed up the ladder and stepped over the railing into my section and ended up picking a kid sitting in the row behind me and took him back down the ladder to the area floor and had him participate in something or other. I was in heaven as I was about six feet away from a genuine TV star. I too had had a crush on Penny.

  2. I installed an antenna a couple weeks ago, one of the stations I get is called Grit, old western movies. I’m loving it. It’s funny… broadcast TV is going the way of old cable TV, specialized stations, and it’s free. If those satellites going up on the Falcon 9 tomorrow pan out we may eventually have an alternative to cable for internet also. I’d love to get rid of cable completely.
