Weekend Open Mic

Weather: After 70-degree weather last weekend to highs in the 20s on Wednesday and Thursday, it reached 70 again on Friday. It’s supposed to cool off a little but still not too bad for mid-February.

My weekend:  I plan on spending much of the weekend working on the patio room and yard this weekend.

Computer woes:  I’m still having sporadic BSOD (blue screen of death) crashes.  I still haven’t figured out what’s going on. I’ve tested the memory and hard drives and no errors were found. It happens once every day or two, so as long as I keep saving my work it’s bearable, yet frustrating.

That’s it from B&P Headquarters in St. Louis. What’s going on in your world?

  1. OK kiddies! Time to play our favorite game. Count the spelling errors. I got one so far.

    Jonco, has your computer updated recently. Maybe it was a bad update? Check to see if there’s any new Windows updates, maybe that would fix it. You may also want to do an online virus scan, check the whole Windows/Programs drive. I’ve been reading about new viruses that infect the boot sector of the computer, basically can’t be detected. Those are usually used in ransomware cases though.

  2. If your memory is fine and you don’t find any problem with your hard drives, either virus/malware or just something borked up because that’s what happens sometimes, you may want to open your case and check your fans. If they’ve built up enough crud, your CPU (and/or GPU if you have a discrete card) can overheat and cause the BSoD. Don’t vacuum it out unless you have a small vac designed for electronics (aka the one’s with static protection), use compressed air from a can or a compressor and maybe take a q-tip with alcohol to your fan(s) blades.

  3. Hey Jonco my wife and I will be in St. Louis next weekend and need some tips on what to do. We will be in town for 4 days. Can you help?

    • It all depends on what you like to do. Here’s a list of some of the more popular attractions: Things to do in St. Louis. Some of my favorites are…
      * The Arch of course, but it’s undergoing a major rennovation on the grounds and the ride to the top is being renovated at this time to and won’t be open again until next month.
      * The city Mudsem (you won’t find another place like it)
      * St. Louis Zoo – one of the best in the country
      * Anheuser Busch Brewery Tour
      * Grant’s Farm
      * The Muny (but I don’t think it’s open til spring)
      * National Blue Museum – It just opened in the fall

  4. My computer doesn’t give me the blue screen of death, instead it has a fan that runs so loud you can’t hear yourself think. As for what’s going on in my world; we’re looking at a blizzard and 16″ of snow.
