    • No, really twelve in the image (four in three rows). As can be easily seen when the image is highly zoomed in.

      This image shows that the human eye only ever sees a small portion of zhe world clearly and interpolates the rest. The dots are removed as artifacts by interpolating the lines. If I remember correctly this is done in the nerve network behind the retina before the image is sent to the brain.
