Oh Deer

Deer flippedThis has been an eventful couple of weeks for me and my car.  My daughter is on vacation with her family and we’re watching their dogs while they’re gone.  About 7 am this morning I headed down to their house to let their dogs out and feed them.  I was on the outer road of the interstate and had just crested a hill when I saw two deer in the road.  I hit my brakes as one tried to run across the two lane road.  I clipped the back legs as it was jumping and sent it spinning in the air.  It flew over the guardrail upside down. and landed alongside the road.  I think it hopped up quickly and sprinted off because I didn’t see it when I looked back after checking the other deer’s location.  I continued on to my daughter’s house and got out to look at my car.  I couldn’t see any damage that wasn’t there from the previous accident a couple weeks ago.

My car goes into the shop first thing tomorrow morning for that repair.

What’s next?

  1. I know who’s gonna be first in line for one of those driverless cars. I blame the deer, for not crossing at the deer crossing sign.

  2. Ho ho holy cow – good to know you’re ok.

Reminds me of the time I went 60 to 0 without ABS and stopped a foot from a deer frozen in my headlights. Thought I was going to have a heart attack from all the adrenalin.

For 10 minutes afterwards I just kept repeating out loud to no one in particular “stupid deer, stupid deer”.

  3. I’ll bet if you had hit your brakes instead of your breaks, might not have turned out as it did.
