Weekend Open Mic

Weekend open micForecast feb 15

Weather: We’re going from snow and freezing rain on Friday to a gradual warming into the 60’s in the coming week.  I can handle that just fine…. well the warming part.  I’m DONE with snow and freezing rain.

Website Issues:  I received a notice from my internet service provider (host) that the database for B&P is more than 3 times the allowable size.  They say it’s causing problems for other sites on the same server. I have to reduce the size of the database or they’ll disable it in about ten days.  There are a few things that I’m aware of that might reduce the size a little, but I’m afraid I won’t be able to cut it down to less than a third of its current size without losing a whole lot of stuff. So B&P could be starting all over once again. Stay tuned.

That’s it from B&P Headquarters in St. Louis MO.  What’s going on in your world?

I always enjoy reading the “This is True” post on here, but todays gave me a chuckle. The game warden charged himself with hunting out of season and was fined $25.oo plus court costs. Gee, they really threw the book at him. I search for and found the news article and it said he was hunting with dogs and the fine could have been up to $1000.oo. What it didn’t say is he could have lost his dogs, gun, had his hunting license suspended, and had his car or truck impounded until the court settled the case. Plus a person of authority committing a crime could have easily lost his job.
It’s about my nap time, so all you B&Pers have a great day.

Well, if it was his first offense and if he was a victim of affluenza and if he was really, really sorry, then that’s OK. Right?

Nothing much. A dog fell off a truck in front of my house. Scared the shit out of me and the neighbors.

I got a little bite from my great grandkitten–just playing. It turned red, and hurt, even though I cleaned it well. Went to check the next day, the doc gave me antibiotics and told me to come in for a check the next day. It was worse, so they sent me directly to the ER, where they took vials and vials of blood, even in the middle of the night, gave me four or five courses of intravenous antibiotics, kept me all night in the ER for observation and treatment, and finally let me go home around noon today.

I don’t know how many times I have been bitten or scratched by cats, with never an infection. They told me that cat bites are “the worst”. And this is a clean, babied kitten who never goes outside and has had all his shots! I’m posting this as a warning–if an animal bite swells up, turns red, get it checked out ASAP.

Sheesh, I’m glad your alright Barbwire. Good warning though. You never know what the little fuzzballs have under their claws or maybe even your own immune system? It may bother some people but won’t bother others. 🙁

My vet told me the same thing about cat bites, everyone thinks they have the cleanest mouth when in reality it may be one of the nastiest, next to human. (Domesticated, I know there are things out there which are much worse)
I spent over $600 on antibiotics for one of my dogs one time because she got in a tussle with a cat and got bitten.

The problem with databases should not be the size but the number of accesses (and how long each one takes, i.e. how complicated it is). At least as long as your database doesn’t grow to Terabyte sizes 🙂
