Tree Stump Removal

Tree stump removalI have no idea if this works but it’s interesting considering we paid several hundred dollars to have some stumps ground out this summer at the club I belong to.

Tree Stump Removal – Get rid of tree stumps by drilling holes in the stump and filling them with 100% Epsom salt. Follow with water, and wait. Live stumps may take as long as a month to decay, and start to decompose all by themselves.

Thanks Niki

  1. Is it that much different to drill holes and just fill them with water? They keep saying that you need to kill the stump. I suppose my experience is limited but I thought that cutting down the tree tended to kill it pretty effectively. That has certainly been the case in our yard.

    • Eh, sure, they are “dead.” It just sometimes takes a tree (stump) to realize that it’s dead. For example, it’s common for shoots of the tree to come up out of the stump or surrounding roots after the tree is cut down. I once tended a bush of tree shoots for nearly a year.

  2. @Qoumidan, we have several stumps in our complex whose roots are very much alive and growing. I think I may try this.
