When Obama was first elected president he seemed, to me, to be a man who was willing to roll up his shirt sleeves and get things done, even if the task at hand was mighty. And sure enough, the man inherited a mess. Bush II was by far the worst president ever, eclipsing even the four year train wreck that was the Carter Years. Bush mishandled the presidency to an extent that would forever cripple the office if not the country and Obama most certainly had to do better, right?
But so far Obama seems to be Bush Lite. Everything that the man railed against in the election campaign he seems to be slipping towards like a dog being dragged across ice to the vet’s office for neutering. Yet we have ample evidence that the deed has been done as far as our sitting president having any sense of courage. Boldly not going where any bureaucrat has never dared to go before Obama has simply frittered away the better part of two terms doing battle with a minor third party faction of the Republican Party, golfing, and watching his hometown of Chicago turn into another Mogadishu.
Well, yeah, he has gotten us out of Iraq but we’re still bogged down in Afghanistan. That isn’t going too well over there, is it? We lost our dictator in Egypt that we had been making payments on for years and we managed to turn Libya into a bigger mess than it was to begin with. Obama railed against the Patriot Act when he was a Senator and rightfully so. Yet at the Midnight Hour he signed an extension for it. He did this in Europe, by the way, so as to make less of a news footprint back here at home. If he thought it was the right thing to do then why not do it here in America?
Eric Holder and the Other Clinton have been less than stellar in their jobs. Clinton slipped away in the night after four years of aging rapidly and Holder is still holding onto a job he dare not relinquish lest his successor bring him up on a variety of charges. If Obama doesn’t give the man a pardon before he leaves Holder will have to leave the county, but I bet he doesn’t go to Mexico; far too many illegal guns down there, you know.
None of this matters, really, not even the IRS scandal or the idea that the government is spying on nearly everyone with a pulse or a cell phone these days. No, the really big thing is we’re looking at Obama about to go to war where our nightmares will be a happy place in comparison. Syria is going to the be flypaper that this country gets stuck to before it’s over with, but honestly, that isn’t the point here. The real point is we have a president that believes we should go to war, and we should go to war right away ( we’ve heard this one before, haven’t we?) but instead of acting he’s dithered and dallied and gone about the business of campaigning for votes. What’s this say about the man? It tells me that he doesn’t believe his own talk and he wants to have someone else to blame if it goes to hell on him, and it will most certainly go to hell. Or, in point of fact, given the power of the presidency by the people of America, the man is a coward, and he hasn’t the courage of his convictions.
Either way, we are screwed.
