When I saw how Facebook data was being made available to the company I work for, I spent the entire evening deleting every post/comment/like/photo/page in my profile and haven’t looked back. Of course, “deleting” only means “not making available to the public anymore” so Facebook still has everything for all eternity, but I won’t even give them the benefit of a click anymore.
Anything you share with “friends” is like a business card — there’s nothing preventing them from sharing it with someone else. If even one “friend” has lax privacy settings or grants permissions to an invasive app, all of their data (including what they have access to, whether they posted it or not) is prone to hijacking.
Why are people so paranoid about their SSN? They’ve already given it to every middle manager of every entry level job they applied for when they left school.
