So what happens game play wise when this kind of thing happens?

The umpires will consult with each other and make a determination of what “should have” happened, and they’ll award bases to the baserunner(s) as appropriate. I’m not sure the outcome of this particular play, but it looked to me like a double, so the batter would go to second, any baserunner on first would move to third, etc.
