It seems odd that A&W is listed with Sunkist under Kraft, and It’s also listed with Pizza Hut under PepsiCo.
The drink brand is owned by Kraft. The restaurants used to be owned by Pepsico, but are now owned by a franchise group.
Yum! is on the chart. They sold A&W in 2011. It just seems unusual that A&W restaurant doesn’t own the A&W beverage. On the one hand, McDonalds sells Coke but doesn’t own Coke. That doesn’t’ seem odd because Coke isn’t in the restaurant name. On the other hand, it would seem wrong to see Coke products in Pizza Hut because it’s owned by PepsiCo.
If you notice at your grocery store, these are pretty much the only brands you see, along with the store brand. That is because the stores charge the food brands money to get on their shelves. They charge more for the eye level shelves. And these are the only companies that are big enough to afford to (a) run enormous marketing programs, (b) pay the enormous shelving fees.
We, the consumers, actually pay for all of this in the form of higher grocery bills.
What I find most odd is that Dr. Pepper and 7up are owned by different companies. If you look on the back of many pops(A&W, Crush, Mello Yellow) they are bottles by the Dr. Pepper/7up group.
