I think more than 2% of B&P readers will get this right.  Make your guess before you look at the comments.

Two. It dosen’t matter how many kids they have, it just say’s the Mr. & Mrs. went to the picnic.

• Betancourt

Only 2…Mr and Mrs Jonah…

• skm

2 went on a picnic per the story.

• Brian Clarke

Wow – it won’t let me leave a 1 digit comment… anyhow, I think that the answer is 2.

2

There you go, Brian. I answered for you.

Not the most well worded riddle I’ve seen. 107 people went to the picnic, if I’m to take that 3 baby sentence the right way.
Wait. 2. 2 went to the picnic.

As I was going to Saint Ives
I met a man with seven wives.
Kits and cats, man and wives,
how many were going to Saint Ives?

• Matt H

Only one was going St Ives…

• revrick315

Insufficient information. Nothing indicates the man he met was going the opposite direction. He could have caught up with him or the man could have caught him. Additionally, nothing indicates he was not part of a larger party. In the picnic quiz, it was clearly “the picnic” being discussed. In this instance, there aren’t the same constraints that limit it to one person.

I love this riddle. It was featured in Die Hard with a Vengeance (the third one with Sam Jackson and Bruce Willis running around New York solving riddles). I believe they solved it by answering “1”.

2 only 2

• sandie

Absolutely only 2.

• It’s a bit hard to take the statistical probability report from someone who can’t type “you” or “are.”

Or maybe it’s just astonishing and amazing to undereducated teenagers..

Or I could be a bitter old hag.. 😉

• Karl

Probably………….

• Bobbo

“Mr and Mrs Jonah and baby make three ….”

• 0 none …..don’t you realize how old the Jonahs are??? At that age they aren’t going anywhere.

• revrick315

Are you implying the Whale ate them both?

• Only Davy Jones knows (no monkeying around)

• Randy

Two people went on the picnic. Let’s see if I am right.

• Rico Rodriguez

None, cause mom and dad stayed home and had a picnic in the bedroom. She chowed down on a hot dog and he had pie.

• grumpy

Does any family actually go to a picnic anymore?

Maybe to Ronny’s for a pre-diabetic, pre-obesity, pre-hypertension excursion.

• Jarrod

I’m guessing that the “statistic” of only 2% getting this right is wrong…

• Kevin

Very simple, there were three people at the picnic. Mr. and Mrs. Jonah, and the narrator of the riddle. People always forget the narrator. Like all those things written in the bible about what Jesus said and did while “alone” in the desert. The narrator, people.

• G

The Jonah”s!!!….i’m Not THAT bad YeT!!!:))))

• laydeelinda

I’m obviously not the first with the answer 2. How many replies did you have with other answers?

• jim

To answer Jarrod’s “questioning of the stats”. One Hundred surveyed, 98 were O.b.a voters. Result 2% correct.

• Mister Rockenberg

I wrongly solved this and got 57 people went to the picnic

• cordee

I say two.
The question is how many of the 2% gets on Bits & Pieces???

• Tim

Mr Jonah has 35 granddaughters and 105 great-grandchildren. If you take spouses into account, that’s at least 185 people. That averages to one relative’s birthday more than every other day. Not to mention the pour soul who has to host holiday gatherings.
So although only Mr and Mrs went on the picnic, it was only Mrs who was “having” a picnic.

• jdp

stupid question…..grumble, grumble…

• kevin

Most people say 2 but I looked into this a little harder and surmised that there are actually a TOTAL of 12 mr and mrs jonahs
