as the candle melts the wax the wax drips off making the candle lighter at that end until the wax drips off the other end making the candle wobble back and forth as the wax drips off
In addition, whichever end is lower melts more wax because the flame is touching more of the candle. This makes that end lighter, tipping the balance in the other direction as the other end becomes the lower end… this makes it self-leveling.
