  1. Wow, the top 8 books are either fiction or quotes from a Communist leader. I guess humans really do struggle with reality.

          • I have read at it. There were some good reading if you kelp a open mind, but it wasn’t a page turner. I believe Dean Koontz, Louis L’Amour, Tom Clancy, Charles Dickens, John Grisham and James Patterson could have done better.

            • It’s nothing like the writings of the others you listed. It’s not intended to be like the others. Maybe that’s your problem. Try reading it again, you’ll get more out of it the second time.

            • Thanks so much, Shadow. You can take a book that has been studied by scholars from all over the world for centuries, has guided the lives of many great people and been the basis for the faith of millions… read part of it and determine that it’s “pure fiction.” That’s wonderful… with your breakthrough discovery, you have saved us from having to read, study and think it through for ourselves. All we have to do is say, “Never mind! Shadow has proclaimed The Bible to be ‘pure fiction.’ No more discussion is necessary, because the Great Shadow has spoken.'”

  2. I love how the bible comes out on top, by far… that’s assuming, of course, that all the people who bought a bible actually read it, and didn’t just leave it in a bookshelf somewhere to forget about. Oh, and they certainly weren’t the hotel managers who bought one for every single god damn room to place in the drawer.

The bible is like an installation license and agreement. You don’t actually read it, you just scroll to the bottom and click “agree.”

  3. Also, it’s worth pointing out that the creator of the graph didn’t put 0 at the bottom, like usual. It’s at the top of the books on the right. So while it appears that the bible has sold about twice the number of harry potter books, it’s actually sold 10 times as many.

  4. Now factor in how long they’ve been in print and I’ll bet Harry Potter comes out on top. …or maybe 50 Shades of Gray.

  5. Where’s the Quran, the holiest book that’s always being protected from destruction and criticism in the name of blasphemy?

  6. The King James Bible of the American Bible Society is ranked #7,726 on Amazon (and the average rating is 3.8 stars). I suspect that a large proportion of Bibles are bought by the Gideon society and other organisations to be given away, but most of there will never be read cover to cover.

And any list that doesn’t mention the Koran has to be highly suspect!

  7. How can a modern book compete with a book that’s been out for centuries and is read by probably 1 in a 100 buyers.

  8. This list is bullshit. Laughable too say the least. Islam is the second-largest religion in the world with about 1.6 to 1.7 billion followers or 22 to 24% of earth’s population. Nowhere is the Quran mentioned.
