Out of curiosity, I checked Google for more info. You can still buy one these machines as a one pack dispenser, from China.

My grandpa had a small one of these mounted on the dash of his ’51 buick. It would hold one pack of cigarettes. Just punch down a little lever and a lit cigarette would pop out, like a soda straw dispenser.
He had a ‘pop-up’ suicide knob on his steering wheel too!
…and a window mounted, water filled air conditioner shaped like a torpedo!
…and a frront window visor and police spotlights on both sides!
Wow, I didn’t realize that grandpa was so cool!
