Making Changes – The Saga is Over

Tv phone internetMy three day, or was it three week, nightmare is over… sort of.  I’m now convinced that the phone company and the cable company just make shit up to tell you when they don’t know what to tell you.  The cable company is the worst by far at this game.

They’ve decided that I’m too far away from their lines to connect me.  Even though there is a cable connection box in the lot next door to my house.  No one on my end of the street has cable so somehow that makes a difference.  The biggest problem with that is that they neglected to tell me that.  They left me waiting for someone to come out.  When they never arrived at the appointed time I called and finally was told this information.

So back I go to  the phone company to get my DSL restored.  The other day one person there told me the DSL was disconnected because my phone number was being ported to another carrier.  I thought it was funny that my landline still worked. But I figured they knew what they were talking about.  So I spent a couple hours trying to get back online.  Someone today told me that wasn’t the case and I still had the service. We finally determined that the problem was in my line or my modem.  So I shot out to pick up a $49 modem.  I get back and it still doesn’t work.  I took the modem out the the outside connection box and plug it in there and lo and behold it worked.  So I had a problem between that and my office where the modem is.  Of course the phone jack in my office is behind a corner desk unit that is all but impossible to move.  Luckily my grandson is young, skinny and limber enough to reach it we plugged the modem directly into the line.  Bingo!  Turns out it was either the 10ft phone cable or the DSL filter in the line that was bad.  I replaced both and the modem began to work.  In the process of trying to figure out the problem I had to reset the modem so it lost it’s programming and that had to be redone, but it’s now up and running again.

The bad news is that I’m going to be away from home tonight and most of tomorrow.  So things won’t be completely back to normal until Sunday or Monday.  I have a lot of catching up to do.

It’s amazing how much we depend on the internet and what a convenience it is.  This has been the most frustrating three days I’ve had in quite a while.

You’ve got much more patience than I do…

You got quite the run-around with the cable guys!
Too bad your location is making cable nearly impossible. Seems that the cable company won’t install until all your neighbors sign up too. Numbers might get their attention.

That’s most likely not going to happen. I understand that but someone should have called me and told me instead of keep making future appointments.

I won’t say I told you so, because I didn’t. I just expressed my very negative feelings about Time Warner Cable.

After spending a couple days using my daughter’s Cricket connection device (that’s all she can get where she lives) my DSL seems blazingly fast now. It’s all in what you get used to.
