7 comments to Cost of Olympics vs. Exploration of Mars
Lies, damned lies and statistics. Ah, it’s always interesting to see the way people will try and justify things. I’m actually a big proponent of NASA and this Mars project.
But, this graph doesn’t actually mean anything since the cost of the Olympics are spread out over many countries and many corporate sponsors. I would bet that the USA’s cost of their portion of the Olympics is a small fraction of the overall cost. Probably well less than the cost of Curiosity.
NASA accounts for about one half of one percent of the federal budget. That’s about ½ of 1¢ for each dollar. And Curiosity is only a part of NASA’s work.
does that mean we could have the olympics on mars for 17.5 billion
What is the return on investment for each?
I guess the mars mission provides return in scientific advances and knowledge. The olympics is national pride and money from endorsments for the althletes. So each has a worthwhile return but it can’t be measured in money.
