I remember while a youngster, my older brother and I made hot air balloons out of those clear plastic clothes covers that your dry cleaned clothes come in. Tape the top opening closed, using light scotch tape. Then we’d build a fame on the lower, open end, out of thin but stiff wire, and put a smallish candle on the frame. Birthday candles are too small, not enough heat. And this would get the ballon up 50 feet or so. Best done at night, for great visual effect.
I don’t know why we didn’t burn the woods around the house down, or the neighbors’ houses. . .
