The first round of security patches ought to be out in a few hours
Everyone using Windows Vista should’ve gotten a free copy of 7 and a written apology from Microsoft.
HELL YES Im gonna buy it
And all those virgin geeks are gonna be up for days trying to crack it.
What the F@ck you doing with Firefox? Google Chrome is by far the best browser. Clean, simple, and, well, Google.
Ana said it all.
@Jonco
Congrats. I am mostly a Linux user but I still keep one HD with windows on it for video games. I been hearing that windows 7 is basically vista with a better User interface, let me know if it is true.
@Grumpy: I still dont trust an advertising company with my personal browser information and as infidel mentioned before it doesnt support adblock.
Have they started selling notebooks with Windows 7? I need to buy a new laptop cos mine is falling apart and a) don’t know which one to get and b) would like Windows 7 pre-installed on it. I’m guessing Europe will be a few months behind on this?
I’m currently using a Dell but it’s fallen apart. Quite literally.
Ana – I agree 100%, although would happily forgo the written apology if they would just give me a copy of 7.

Grumpy: Until Chrome supports my bazillion add-ons it can’t be considered a serious contender for Firefox. More of a tech demo, or a curiosity. Also, what Isiah says is quite right. Google may be white-hat for the moment, but who knows where they will be in the future.
I like the upgrade option, which saves me having to re-install all of my software (some of which cannot be reinstalled due to special offers/Giveawayoftheday.com expiry), but apparently upgrading can present niggling problems further down the line that just aren’t present in a fresh install. I am going to change to 7, I just need to figure out what I will lose if I do a wipe, or whether the niggles will be tolerable.
Been using Windows 7 ever since the final build leaked onto the web in late July. No issues at all with the upgrade. It’s faster, more intuitive, and less obtrusive. It’s “what Vista should have been”.
Bambi,
Yes, they’re now selling PC’s and laptops with Windows 7 pre-installed.
Maffu,
Download the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor. It will tell you what programs or hardware (if any) won’t work with Windows 7. I had a couple of things that popped up that I don’t use anymore. And a couple I forgot I even had on my system.
Been using the RTM version on my office notebook for the past few months… Nothing truly special, way better than vista but not as good as XP.
Finally, I can upgrade from XP Pro. Not changing to Vista was a good decision on my part.
Richard,
without doubt!
Maffu said “niggling”.
I seem to be one of the few happy Vista users. Never had a single problem with it and like it quite a bit. So if you see a difference in Windows 7, please let us know. Otherwise, I’m just letting it be.
I have had windows7 for a few weeks now and i think it is a lot better than vista…and i got it for free too!
Been using 7 for almost a year now. Managed to grab a beta when it was starting its first testing. I love it. For those of you who are upgrading to 7 and need to reinstall stuff, check out this cool site I came across. Let’s you pick some popular downloads and bundle them together in one file for total easiness!

7 seems to be dam near identical to Vista. I used the 7 Beta for quit some time, and enjoyed some of the new features. Mostly for Sys. Admins in the work place. After all, 7 was only released because Vista did not take off like expected in the business realm. Several cool features for support, but all in all mostly like Vista. I have also had Vista running on my home computers since it came out and have enjoyed it. Remember, END OF LIFE for XP is April 2014 and it has already reached END OF SALE. Unless you plan on going to some Linux version, might as well go to 7.
Imma wait a while to see what major bugs appear. I upgraded to Vista when it first came out and hated it from day one! There is nothing more annoying than trying to open a program that you just clicked on and having friggin Vista pop up and say it needs your permission to open this program! Also, when you log on to your desk top, why does Windows Vista say “Welcome”? After all, it’s my computer!! Shouldn’t I be welcoming it?!? Windows seems to think it’s Microsoft’s computer and they are just giving you the right to use it. OK! Rant over!
I ran the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor tool.
I ticked away on my PC for 5 hours. FIVE. HOURS. On a hand-built dual core rig with 4GB ram. Without reaching a conclusion.
Then I got bored and told it to bugger off.
Grrr.
