I work at the international airport in Sydney and we had this on trial a while ago. I’d rather have a pat down than this scan!!

They need to work on the logistics. I do not think some random female worker is going to want to see me naked–and it looked like a woman looking at the male passenger.

Also, while I am standing in this booth, who is keeping my carryon stuff from getting stolen?

And if I decided to get a C4 (explosive) enema, would this technology find that?

  • Since I got my titanium hip, I get patted down every time I travel which is every couple months. It’s not much of a problem unless I’m running late. But if I ever see that they are going to put me through one of these, then I’m gonna work up a little something better than that guy did for the lady to look at.

Concerning the logistics, the machine and the viewing device are located well apart so that there is no visual contact outside of the machine.

Hey Tim, I don’t know about you, but the pat-down checks I get at the airport wouldn’t find a C4 enema either, I’ve tried paying them, but they’re just not THAT thorough…

  • LOL @ Grog. Are you gonna do that while waiting in line?

I was in the airport at Kathmandu, Nepal and had a good laugh, I only wish I’d have filmed it. The power was out, so the man whose job it was to put the luggage on the belt to send it thru the Xray machine now had to push them half way thru. Then a different man reached in to pull them out, and all the while the man whose job it was to view the monitor screen sat in his chair watching the black powerless monitor.

    Brilliant story, Ed.

Am I the only one who thinks they put the wrong person through in the demo? Why didn’t the woman being interviewed about how great it was offer to go through?

You guys know that this is just security theater and has nothing to do with terrorism, right?

  • The best and funniest images will turn up on the internet in 3, 2, 1…

I’d give her a pat down.

  • Tim

JD – yes, I know that pat-downs won’t find the C4 enema no matter how much you pay them.

mu – I agree that most of airport security is security theatre. I like how a vendor can run cases of liquids (bottled water, pop/soda, etc.) through the X-ray machines, but I can’t–I can only bring up to 3 oz of liquids in a quart-size bag.

  • LOL @ Miss C. Probably true.

  • Duuude

I would totally put on something fake down there just to get an eye pop out of an unsuspecting female “viewer”.

Where’s the line for the cavity search?

  • Brune

It’s a dumb idea. But if it becomes the standard, then at least we will have the constellation prize of knowing that smugglers or terrorists need to insert dangerous items in their… I just realized that children should be banned from entering these things because of possible pedophile cases.

  • Scott

    Constellation prize?

She deserves a constellation prize for her heavenly body.

  • JohnC

OK, Brune, once again–How’s that experiment with “rolling spiders” and “buds” goin’? Purty good it looks like. Did ya get a hunderd ovem yet?

  • Mac

she needs to spend some time watching American tv and lose that accent
