They got the power, they got the speed
To be the best in the National League
Well this is the year and Cubs are real
So come on down to Wrigley Field
Hey Klaw…The Cards are coming over to play the Indians this weekend…You gonna be here?
Love the new Busch. Always come over for the latest I-70 meetings. And, D.J., Cleveland is where I wanna be. A great halfway from KC to Cooperstown. Missed the Royals/Indians at Jake in ‘06 due to illness, but I faxed the tickets to a Union local up there. The Royals are at Progressive as I type. Ouch!! I’ve frequently adopted the Indians over the years, loved Mudcat, El Tiante, Tito Francona, Woodie Held, the rookie Rocky (Colavito, while a coach for the Royals, I believe was involved in an accident in an empty K parking lot). I loved and emulated Rocky: his war-up aim of the bat at the pitcher’s head, etc. Sorry, but I wax teenimental.
JohnC – What a youngster you are! I am more in love with the earlier Indians with Bob Feller, Bob Lemon, Hal Newhouser and Early Wynn on the mound. Behind them were Al Rosen, Vic Wertz, Bobby Avila and Larry Doby. That was the ‘54 team that beat out the Yankees for the AL pennant but lost to the Giants in the series.
Deborah, Deborah, Deborah….. For sure, to see a game at Wrigley is a great time… something you’ll remember tyhe rest of your life. It is a neat ballpark. But to have the illusion that the Cubs can actually go all the way and win the Series is just absurd. They usually do pretty good in the season but ALWAYS, ALWAYS choke right near the end.
DJ, snag us some free tickets with VOUCHER that sez free beer and food.
LOL Jonco, it’s totally true. The dang curse!
GO DETROIT RED WINGS!!!! Oops, wrong inning.
John C & Richard…I must be closer to JohnC’s age…All those names take me back. One of my favs was Buddy Bell…he and I are 4 days apart in age. I believe he managed in KC, didn’t he? Mudcat Grant did the color for the Tribe games for awhile, and he was know for mangling the names of towns in Ohio. He still couldn’t pronounce Ashtabula or Bucyrus after all those years. (Real: Byou SI rus—he always said BUCKY russ). He’s still well loved throughout the northern half of Ohio. It became an honor to have your town’s name mangled by Mud.
And Richard, I’m sure you remember Herb Score (great name for a ball-player) who just died a few months ago. His was quite a story. The names you mentioned were a little before my time, but all still fondly remembered.
I can sympathize with Deborah…Every spring, we just know it’s gonna be our year and we’re writing the dates for the World Series on our calendar, but for the Cubbies and the Tribe, it never ever is. But we have beautiful parks to play in, and the crowd is fun, and you just have to enjoy the moments.
Richard – Here’s a story about Bob Feller (he became a hero in WWII smack in the middle of his peak pitching years) and what he’s doing today. He still lives in the Cleveland area and threw out the first pitch in the opener last year.

Hey, DJ,
Yeah, Buddy managed the Royals and altho the team wasn’t successful, I think the Bell legacy drew respect. Dad Gus, of course, played in Cincinnati. I. too , thought of Herb Score and how his brilliant carrer was halted by a batted ball. I was listening to the Royals/Tribe game last night and they were saying Feller, 90?, still made most home games. Knowing that, I’ll remember to “bow” whenever I finally get up there for a game.
Richard,
Caught the tailend of Bob Lemon’s career here in K.C. as an early Royal manager. Also remember the end of his pitching career and think I recall his 300th win (mid-60’s IN K.C.?). I gotta look that up.
One pic of the Jumbotron at Busch and I’m “out there” again. Thanks,B&P, Jonco.
JohnC & Richard – Tribe games are carried on WTAM-1100. They say they cover “38 states and half of Canada”…give ‘em a shot against KC tonite. And St. Louie is in for the weekend.
DJ, may the best team win this weekend.
