Bella vouches for this:
Mosquito Spray…Worth a try
I was at a deck party awhile back, and the bugs were having a ball biting everyone. A man at the party sprayed the lawn and deck floor with Listerine, and the little demons disappeared. The next year I filled a 4-ounce spray bottle and used it around my seat whenever I saw mosquitoes. And voila! That worked as well. It worked at a picnic where we sprayed the area around the food table, the children’s swing area, and the standing water nearby. During the summer, I don’t leave home without it…..Pass it on.
Comments:
I tried this on my deck and around all of my doors. It works – in fact, it killed them instantly. I bought my bottle from Target and it cost me $1.89. It really doesn’t take much, and it is a big bottle, too; so it is not as expensive to use as the can of Bug-spray you buy that doesn’t last 30 minutes. So, try this, please. It will last a couple of days. Don’t spray directly on a wood door (like your front door), but spray around the frame. Spray around the window frames, and even inside the dog house.
This is how we like to see mosquitos:

Dead!
Thanks Bella

What a great idea as I never get mosquito bites in my mouth. I will give it a shot. Thank you.
Bella – Knowing that you live in Canuck land, I will assume that the photo is life sized.
Yes Richard, I have to keep a bat handy to make sure they don’t pack off my Shitzu’s.
This product actually makes the other product fresher if the pups eat grass and pass it.
No, the last ones a lie!

Check out snopes, totally false
Sounds awfully dubious to me: http://urbanlegends.about.com/od/medical/a/listerine.htm
Living in MN, the bug land from he77, we use this also. But, you must use the original brand and not the ‘flavored’ type. I buy it for the ranch party each year and place bottles on all of the tables, even spray it in the barn. It does work and you can spray it on yourself.

And if you tune your radio to 105.3 on the FM setting mosquitos will stay away from the sound frequency!
I love the smell of fresh grass in the morning, oh this does indeed work. I took a bath in it tonight, it kept the pesky neighbouuuurs away as well.
DAYUM Im gonna try that, thanks, here in Georgia we really need something that works good
I prefer to beat them down with toothpaste, they become Crest-fallen.
I just spent a week in Houston, and they used this method at a gathering. Seems to have worked because I came home with NO mosquito bites! ( I usually get eaten alive.) Smells better than bug spray, too!
I accidentally swallowed one at Bella’s house the other evening…right before it went down, it had very nice breathe.
but… Listerine is expensive. where I’m from, at least.
Tom, you’re article is some what useful, but if people have actually used it and it worked for them than it isn’t exactly false now is it?
Here in Brazil (in a few places), we use a Electrical Racket…
It looks like a tennis racket but when turned on and hitting any of those flying plagues, it does a real mess… and makes a funny sound!!
But listerine seems nice too
=]
Actually if you READ the Snopes article, it is suggests that Listerine will work, just not as well as the email claims, both as a pesticide with direct application, and as a repellant. It does not appear from the writing in the Snopes article that it was actually tried by the author. Frankly, one of the crappier Snopes items I’ve seen, as it appears that the author didn’t use sources or conduct experiments, they just used deductive reasoning, which doesn’t always agree with reality.
*Clarification to above: a source (newspaper article) is indeed listed, but doesn’t appear to address Listerine, just what attracts mosquitoes and the mechanics of repellants.
My folks have used this for years now at their lake house. It indeed works very well, though they do have to reapply it fairly often. Thankfully they use the cheap Listerine. But it does help that is for sure. And smells nice to boot.
Actually folks, what works for some, may not work for others. I don’t know why. I have a lot
of small dogs and try to use the most friendly but effective products because of them. Listerine does work when I spray it around the patio (even on ants) and will not harm
them. I use straight vinegar to kill weeds and I rub bounce sheets on their backs if
there is an outbreak of black flies or nits and both these work well too.
I hope you just pulling our leg — “if you tune your radio to 105.3 on the FM setting mosquitos will stay away from the sound frequency!”
The radio frequency has nothing to do with the frequency of the sound coming out the speakers!!
I came to thnk Bella for the tip, but John’s post is so funny I’m still laughing!
LOL @ Bill, and thnk you.
Does not work-sprayed all around and over me this weekend. My legs, arms and neck still look like I was attacked
