Wolfrum/Alpha – The Google killer?

Some are calling a new search engine a Google killer.  Apparently you can ask it a question and it will give you a much more relative answer than Google does.  It can interpret your question more like a human being would and give you a more appropriate answer.

Here’s a sneak preview of Wolfram/Alpha.

Wolfrm/Alpha is expected to go public this month.

nice the geek in me thinks it will be great.
the marketer in me thinks the name needs help if it wants to challenge Google (googoo the first words your parents teach you, Google didn’t just pick that name out of the blue.)

The name google is also meant to imply the incredible amount of information accesible through google. The real definition of one google is a number… a fantastically large number. A 1 with 100 zeros behind it. That’s 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000
    ,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000

(Not that hard to do with copypasta.)

Actually, the number is called a Googol… It was a misprint that lead to the name google

Looking at the website and the math equations it does. I see schools banning it. Enter in a calculus question and it answers it for you?? Where was this 7 years ago?

    Google does math already

Spelled it wrong in the title. Nice site though.

  • No search site has come close to beating Google as far as search engine market share goes. It will be interesting to see how WolframAlpha fares.

They don’t need to change the name, Wolfram is an alternate name for tungsten, which in my book is the most epic element.
