lol.. not even close. Might I recommend the book Best Laid Plans. The entire first third is about how the goverment screwed up the foresting industry and caused panic about "deforestation" because poorly written computer models overhyped how many trees we "should" have. protip: trees take more than a year to grow.

Fact is, just like this housing crisis, people are getting freaked out over imaginary numbers. We didn't "lose" trees, we just overshot how many we thought we would have (by thousands of acres... ). Your property value isn't "dropping". It's going down to what it really SHOULD have been when you bought the overpriced house. -_-

The idea, reading the link, is that by making the case easy to dismantle, people might be more likely to properly dispose of the really bad stuff inside. Not a terrible idea.

As for the trees, only the baby ones that are still growing really give off any significant oxygen...so I'm fine with tearing the big, old ones down.

^ And when trees are harvested, more are planted in their place, to be harvested again later. Just like corn or wheat.
There are more trees in the US and Canada now than 50 years ago.

But what does this "environmentally friendly" thing run on? Oh, electricity. Doh!!

Let me know when they build a solar powered computer and keyboard and monitor out of duck poop, old tires and the new politically correct CFL lightbulbs you're going to be forced to put in your computer room...that have toxic mercury in them.

No tree shortage, check.

Also, the easily recyclable steel or aluminum cases are be far the least environmentally scary part of a computer.

Let me know when they've removed all of the nasty heavy metals and such from the circuits and PCBs and replaced them with tree-hugger friendly hemp or something (and it functions as a computer and is in no way a bong), then I'll be impressed.

when will we admit/realize/learn that trees are specifically planted to BE paper trees. We aren't chopping down forests to make paper. We're choppping them down to build shit and give people places to live besides trees. -_-...

There is no tree shortage. Never was.
