A sad loss, I met him once at the old KXOK, great guy…….Wait a minute, I also live 10 minutes from Kimmswick. Good Day.
A great American, RIP Mr Harvey….and now, The rest of the story.
Years ago, as he was about to go to commercial prior to “the story”, he would say “In a moment you’re GOING to hear the rest of the story.”
For some reason my dad took offense at that, he liked to listen to PH, but I guess he had a thing about being told what he was GOING to do.
Anyway, as soon as PH would say that, my dad mutter “wanna bet”, and with great flourish turn off the radio.
But dammit I wanted to hear the story. dunno
Not such a good guy: Paul Harvey’s Tribute to Slavery, Nukes, Genocide
Hateful rant shows Disney’s double standard on speech “7/1/05
Disney/ABC radio personality Paul Harvey, one of the most widely listened to commentators in the United States, presented his listeners on June 23 with an endorsement of genocide and racism that would have been right at home on a white supremacist shortwave broadcast.” and for the rest of the story: http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=2569
No matter what other stations were on on a construction site, at noon all radios would be tuned over to Paul Harvey, and for 15 minutes, all the radios were in sync.
He was never the same after his wife died last year…They were married 68 years.
He died of a broken heart as much as anything else.
love that house,DAYUM thats nice
Well, somebody always manages to piss in the pool.
I will greatly miss my dear friend, Paul Harvey. My days will never be the same. To me, he IS a “member” of the family. I grew up listening to Paul and probably “heard” him while my mom still had me in her belly. I cannot remember NOT knowing his voice or who he was. His voice was as familiar to me as my parents’ or other family members’ who have always been there for me. Listening to him has been a huge influence in my life, and wherever I traveled I always tried to find him on the radio. In case I could not find him or was tied up, I’d have a friend record the missed broadcasts. I have several years’ worth of his broadcasts and now will treasure them even more. I also have a “REST OF THE STORY” audio library, which is fun to listen to and educational.
I am nearly 50 years old; and when I had a chance to meet Paul in person, I jumped at it. He was coming to town to acknowledge the addition of his father’s name to the Policemen’s Memorial in Washington, D.C. He gave a great speech at that dedication, which–if you have listened to Paul for many years–there is no doubt you have heard parts of it. He spoke about the integrity and honor of police men and women. After the speech, he signed a few programs, including mine. I thanked him before a long stretch limousine whisked him on his way. And now, Paul gets to see his family and friends. And after a while, as Paul had said, in his Many Father’s Day Broadcasts, he gets to get things ready for those who will follow him someday.
Now there is a big void in my mornings and lunch breaks. How do you say goodbye to somebody so important to your life? You don’t, I won’t, I can’t. I will just say, “See you later, Paul. I’ll catch you down the road a bit, and thank you for everything.” Mr.Rad
Mr Rad….I loved your note and completely share your sentiments. And would love access or knowledge of the path to the ROTS audio library.
