The only Vice-Presidential debate takes place tonight here in St. Louis. Sarah Palin and Joe Biden will take their prospective corners at 8 pm (CST).
I really do hope that Sarah Palin does a good job tonight, but I’m not counting on it. People are saying that Biden has to be careful not to attack her too hard. I don’t think that Biden should attack her at all. I think he (and all candidate really) should just talk about his or her own party’s plans. Don’t say anything negative about her. If history is any indication I suspect she’ll dig her own hole. I honestly hope she doesn’t, but I’m not optimistic.

Ahh, I see, another Leftist site, much like Lisa at that Hattle, no Hat, down in the Florida Keys. Well, fellow Americans, I do not hear, nor see, anyone disputing McCain’s warnings (as well as other Conservative Republicans) warnings, that thre were troubles at both Fannie and Freddie. Where was tounge-tied Barney Frank? House Over-Site Comittee? Hmmmm, Franklin Raines, financial advisor to the Annoited One, His Ever Forgiving, all Knowing, the Senator Barrack Hussien Obama: made $90,000,000 in only a 3 year tenure; at Fannie Mae. I hate McCain! He’s a sell-out. But, let us all be fair in pointing out indescrepincacies (or how-ever thats spelled)
I’m Canadian, so have no vote in the US election, but I have a couple thought on the video regarding Palin’s experience.
First, her comment was in response to a question about meeting foreign leaders, and in that context she claimed to be similarly experienced as past VP candidates. The rebuttal focused on experience more generally, never once claiming any of the others had ever met a foreign leader before becoming vice president. That’s an intellectually dishonest oversight, in my opinion. However, the broader point made by the video is still valid.
I’m also genuinely curious if someone has done a similar analysis of general experience regarding Obama. I’ve heard people dismiss experience questions by saying “well, at least we’ve seen him campaign for the last year”. That seems to be a weak counter-argument, especially since Obama himself was previously quoted as saying he didn’t intend to run in 2008 because he didn’t feel he’d have the necessary experience. Has any presidential candidate ever had less experience?
However, I think experience in many ways is highly over-rated when it comes to politics. I prefer aptitude, integrity, and good common sense. These things are often lacking in career politicians who mostly appear to have been changed by the system to accept too much of the status quo. I personally don’t view 20 or 30 years in the Senate as a good thing…
